500 hours? What's there to do after main quest?

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 1:44 pm

someone enlighten me. The main quest can be finished within 100 hours easy, why do people say there's 500 hours of gameplay? How many worthwhile side quests and places to explore are there that are actually worth it and how many cities/towns are there to discover that the main quest doesn't cover?

I'm confused guys

The main quest is probably about 10% of the total quest-related content.

I have a total playtime of about 10 hours, and I still have cities I haven't even been to yet.

I suggest joining the mages college or the companions, they have a bunch of quality quests. Explore the bars and taverns, almost always you will find people in need of help for something. That should give you another 100 hours :)

Don't rush to the MQ, try to do as many side-quests as possible, once you cleared all of them, then you go ahead on the MQ.

Now, now... who do you think you are? He didn't ask how to play the game.

I've been playing for a little shy of 10 hours, I'm level 8 and I haven't even started the main quest.

1o hours here, and all I have done is clear 3 or 4 dungeons and walked to whiterun from riverwood to do one quest in the main storyline(where you kill your first dragon).
I also grabbed my first companion, Faendal the wood elf, from riverwood :D!

Call it infinite hours, there's so many things to do in an Elder Scrolls game it can't really be fully summed up, and this isn't new to Skyrim. The main quest is not even a fraction of the total quest related content.

Same here, 11 hours, level 9 and I have yet to talk to the Jarl. This is going to be like Morrowind, and I played Morrowind for like, three years, on ad off. I freaking love TES.

some of you guys are so slow to do the main quest. I don't see the point of wandering around finding new cities and killing/looting forsworn or whatever, the exploration of the game is really the same thing for like 100 hours lol. There have been some good quality side quests though but I can't always find all of them.

Thats OK. For you, Skyrim will be a 30-50 hours game, like for most people TBH. Not everyone's like the rest of us here :D

Most of us are die hard fans who love exploration, will do every sidequest, and ultimately explore every cave and perhaps max every skill. Then do radiant AI random quests. Thats how you can play a character for 300+ hours really, the "core" content isn't going to get anywhere near that.

Don't get me wrong I agree there is a lot of content and places to explore outside the main quest but I was wondering how many GOOD side quests are there besides the main quest. I don't find exploring the map and killing/looting that fun ouside of like 10 hours maybe, after that it's really repetitive and not worth spending hundreds of hours doing and some of the side quests are not good or rewarding at all.

you can certainly "beat" the game in under 100 hours, by just rushing down the main quest, however that quest line is only a small portion of the game.
here is an example using the guide book. pages 117-155=main quest. Pages 156-413=side quests :D

I should add: I liked about 90% of the side quests and almost all the guild progression quests in ES4, and have been enjoying them so far in Skyrim. The mage quests were actually my favorite part of oblivion (hunting and killing necromancers>closing portals) haha

This isn't World of Warcraft. Quests are probably not that repetitive.

There are factions to join with questlines, hundreds of misc and random quests. There is exploring and finding new places and items. Also The Daedric quests. Plus even after all the scripted quests are done. Skyrim keeps generating constant new quests for the player. and the most obvious thing is Role playing characters, That is why its called an RPG.

Actually, Skyrim has unlimited gameplay. It can NEVER be finished, it's engine keeps creating new quests.
