Yes.

But that doesn't mean Akatosh and Alduin like each other.

Yeah, I knew that. But it's not that simple.

Fact: The Nords call Akatosh Alduin. Akatosh is the God of Time. Alduin is the Eater of Worlds.

My opinion: They are NOT the same, but Nords just think they are the same because that explanation makes the most sense to them.

Are you implying the Avatar of Akatosh that was frozen in stone at the end of Oblivion has been unfrozen and is coming to eat the world now? That would essentially mean it's Martin Septim's spirit.

That's not the case, though. I think you were just pointing out a coincidence.

The Avatar of a god is its living likeness, not the god himself.

The Red Tower fell.
The Amulet was destroyed and the Alessian pact broken.
Talos worship was outlawed.

Alduin is free to fulfill his purpose.

Got it in one. It would explain the timing. Akatosh's birth is because of his manifestation at the end of Oblivion.

Spoiler
And provide the possibility of the return of the Septim line once he's defeated.

Alduin is the Nordic variation of Akatosh, and only superficially resembles his counterpart in the Eight Divines. For example, Alduin's sobriquet, 'the world eater', comes from myths that depict him as the horrible, rauaging firestorm that destroyed the last world to begin this one. Nords therefore see the god of time as both creator and harbinger of the apocalypse. He is not the chief of the Nordic pantheon (in fact, that pantheon has no chief; see Shor) but its wellspring, albeit a grim and frightening one.

"Dagon (no longer a Leaper Demon King) screamed, "Please no! We have stolen from you so much and crammed it all back on in the craziest of places that it will take forever for me to regain my jumping kind of happiness! Especially if I can only come back to this world through auspicious days long between one and another that also require rituals! I beg you not to do this, O Aka! I beg you one hundred thousand and eight times!""

Really, you decided to necro up a discussion from before the game was even released...

I'm not sure if I should be appalled or impressed.

No, he's not, it's just the silly Imperials who think "Dragon god == Akatosh even though one is benevolent other destroys".

There's a book about it.
