Any workaround for Dual Wield Problems?

Should be renamed to Dual Unwieldly.

Heres the issue I'm having, in a nutshell.

I have two steel swords. I assign them to L and R hand in the main weapons menu.

I then Favorite them (as there are two of them they are stacked and only require being set favorite once)

I go to the favorite menu and bind Steel Sword(2) to the 1 key.

I then hit the 1 key, and voila I am dual wielding two steel swords.

I hit the 2 key (my bow) and swap to bow, then the 1 key and I'm back to my swords. Awesome.

Now heres where it gets weird:

I take my steel swords to the grindstone to improve them. Even though they're both "Steel Sword(Fine)" they now no longer stack with each other. They are two seperate "Steel Sword(Fine)" in inventory.

I assign one to L hand, the other to R Hand in the main weapons menu. And Favorite both.

I then go to the Favorites menu and I have to assign both swords to separate keys. Fine, whatever I set one to key 1, the other to key 2 and put my bow on key 3.

Now since I just assigned the swords to hands in the main menu when I hit 1....I get both swords! Awesome!

Then I hit 3, switch to my bow, I hit 1 and I only get one steel sword in my right hand. If I hit 2, it replaces the R Hand steel sword with the steel sword I have assigned to the L Hand in the main weapons menu. Effectively making dual wielding require an equipment menu interface every time you swap weapons.

Sometimes in this process of swapping or attempting to swap from dual wielding to bow and back again, I'll end up with nothing on Key 1 and go into my favorites menu and see that the swords no longer have a key number assigned to them.

Overall its making dual wielding quite frustrating. Anyone know any work arounds or fixes? Other than the obvious "don't upgrade your weapons"?
