So I'll start the Xbox up and it will say reading an all that, then it will either go to open tray or "this disc is unrecognizable".

I would say it's just my Xbox but I've tried other games I have, all of which are scratched terribly and shouldn't work. But they will start on the first try.

It sounds like its going to then just stops before it even loads.Anyone else having this problem? I'm going to gamestop in the morning to try a different copy though sooo.

Yep. Same issue here. Not only that, but the disc works on a friends 360, but not mine. Not sure what the difference is, they are both the older white model. Also, all my other games still work. Kinda miffed here and hoping that getting another disc at Gamestop tomorrow will solve the problem... though I am beginning to doubt that and suspect that it is my system. I have already tried everything the 360 website has to suggest for Unrecognized Disc errors and nothing has worked. If someone finds a solution please post it here!

This is really pissing me off, kinda ruined my excitement. I should be killing dragons after waiting 2hrs for this game.

Well, bad news. Got a new disc this morning and it's doing the same thing. My only guess is that for some reason some of the older Xbox 360 models are being affected. Which is absolutely lovely, btw.

Well there goes the "consoles are great because they only need to make for one type of hardware" argument. So it seems the 360 is just like PCs now, different 360s have different tech so may not work on all 360s now.

Well you will have to contact Microsoft now. I mean Xbox. Tell them that other games will work but Skyrim, a brand spanking new copy will not work.

Remember Microsoft, I mean Xbox but out new firmware that lets each 360 read the "new disks" that can hold more info. Some 360s stopped working because of this (couldn't read disks anymore) and Microsoft replaced the 360s. So maybe you 360 can't read this new disk then.

Have you updated your xbox? This should have been done months ago. I am assuming you have, but just making sure. If you have only thing I can try and think of is, "restore your 360 to manufacture settings" and then go onto xbox live and reinstall the updates and then try Skyrim. If this doesn't work, call Xbox support.

Unfortunately, you're problem is probably with your xbox itself... I've seen this issue before with other games. I bought Halo Reach when it first came out and had the same issue. wouldn't start or wouldn't get past the first autosave, gave disk unreadable, etc. older games worked fine, just the one game failed.

It happened to a number of other people, too and there was much complaining online. eventually people figured out that it was an issue with older 360 consoles. the error messages aren't real clear on the xbox (thanks Microsoft...), but in most cases when the error reads "disk unreadable" it's not talking about your game CD, it means the HDD.

I know its an expensive and annoying solution, but you may have to replace your console. I replaced mine and it solved all of the issues. I haven't gotten my copy of skyrim yet to see if it works (had to work early today so no midnight release for me...), but the issue sounds very similar to old issues with other games. if it works on another xbox console, that should confirm this....

I just called microsoft and they said the same thing, it's a compatability issue. I guess that will be the only way is get another xbox.

Very Very Fustrated! My xbox 360 Elite cannot read the frikking disc. I have tried allsorts, including updating the xbox using USB (Can't read it) and using a CD I burnt (also, doesn't read, refuses to run on startup as the lovely xbox site says it should...). Nothing seems to have work and its reallllly bugging me and the husband - he's been bugging me to get it on pre-order for months and months (which, admittedly I didn't) so when we went out this morning and bought a copy from ASDA, he got very excited! Cue me going to work and expecting to hear from him.... 30 mins later a phonecall saying it doesn't work. Great. So, online I go and spend my entire day looking for a fix, to finially revisit here and find this ARRGGHHHH

So got one of the new Slim 360s and it works fine. Hope all of you can find a way to fix it that is better than mine. My wallet hurts a bit right now.

The compatibility thing is odd though since my xbox is very old at this point but it's working grand. Very strange.

One of the other posters on a different thread has the same problem but their Xbox is only a few months old.

Yeah, I really feel for you guys. We PS3 users got screwed over on NV now Xbox users are getting the same on Skyrim. PC users got it worse though. It svcks, Bethesda really has to get its crap together.

I got a almost 1 year old SLIM model, has that same issue, gave it to my brother who has a xbox elite and it worked on the first try!!!
