AssassinRogue build. Finally got mine down I think

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 8:35 pm

Here is the build I have come up with for a Assassin/Rogue build. After it,
I will discuss.

Alchemy:
Alchemist:5
Total: 5

Light Armor:
Agile Defender:5
Custom Fit:1
Unhindered:1
Wind Walker:1
Deft Movement: 1 (great avoidance)
Total: 9

Lockpicking:
Apprentice Locks:1
Quick Hands:1
Adept Locks:1
Golden Touch:1
Treasure Hunter: 1 (the special items)
Master Locks:1
Expert Locks:1
Total: 7

Sneak:
Stealth:5
Backstab:1
Muffled Movement:1
Deadly Aim:1
Assassin’s Blade:1
Shadow Warrior:1
Total: 10

Pickpocket:
Light Fingers:1
Night Thief:1
Extra Pockets:1
Total: 3

Archery:
Overdraw:1
Eagle Eye:1
Steady Hand:2
Total: 4

One Handed:
Armsman:5
Total:5

Smithing:
Steel Smithing: 1
Arcane Blacksmith:1
Elven Smithing:1
Advanced Armors:1
Glass Smithing:1
Dragon Armor:1
Total: 6

TOTAL: 49
------------------------
Now Ill discuss my thought process on each one:

Alchemy: The 5 pts doubles the potency of my potions. The rest of the
tree seemed more convenience

Light Armor: I took all but Matching Set, because I felt like it was too
constrictive.

Lockpicking: Wax key I skipped because I dont care reopening a lock,
its more skill leveling. BIG CHANGE here will be if lockpicking is very easy
and Ill drop some points out of this.

Sneak: Light Foot and Silent Roll seemed too situational, and not worth the
points. I can see Silence being useful, but once again situational. Shadow
Warrior I think will have many uses, and I got it (Archery sniping mages
mid battle)

Pickpockets: Took just enough to get Extra Pockets. I do like Misdirection
and Perfect Touch but I think they are only really useful on NPCs, since
enemies I will kill anyhow.

Archery: Got to love Eagle Eye and Steady Hand. The zoom in will be
great for long distances, and the slowing down time effect will be awesome
mid battles are fighting dragons in flight.

One Handed: Enough points to double the damage on my 1Hers.

Smithing: Too enough to get the Dragon Armor. At some point I may switch
out Arcane Blacksmith for Daedric Smithing, but I will not make that decision
until I see what my weapons look like late level.

---------------------
Possibly something I will pick up is 5 pts into Alteration to get Magic Resistance.
If I can afford losing points in lockpicking I will more than likely put them in Alteration
to get this resistance.

I had to keep in mid that more than 49 perks is possible, but as we know, they will
come much slower after level 50. Id prefer some perks into Speech, but could
not fit it into this build.

Any advice or feedback is welcome.

Still mulling that one over.

Its either going to be Breton for the Magic Resistance and
their absorb magic power, or a Dark Elf or Breton for their
resistances.

Im not worried about the bonuses to beginning skills as a factor,
which was discussed in other posts.

I'm thinking about most of the same, maybe put points into enchanting instead of smithing.

Also I'm considering either using a shield or just going 1hander with nothing in offhand so I can sure up more perk points.

We'll see how much I like 1h vs sword and board.

Lockpick tree seems.... well unless for role-playing reasons i dont think they are good choice on any character. The only perk might be useful is the Unbreakble but to get that u have to dump a lot of points in useless filler perks which dont let u do any new things.

I think that lockpick perks are useless because people are reporting that they can pick all locks with 30+ skill if they know how to, and extra pockets is kinda meh since you will have stamina as a rogue and 100 space means nothing when you can store items in your house. If you wanna make money you are off better enchanting looted/crafted gear and selling them to vendors then spending tons of perks so you can get better items from lockpicking.

If I were you I would focus more on archery.

I agree about the lockpicking, and Im on standby to drop the
tree if its not needed.

If I do that, more than likely ill get the Magic Resist perk or
the Avoid Death one.

First and foremost Ill be leveling up Stealth as much as possible
for the stealth attack bonuses.

Use bow and kill stuff from distance. It is a great overall weapon since you can attack on the move and not be slowed down when perked and you have 15% chance to paralyze the target whenever you shoot him. Also you can block with the bow and bash people who are about to power attack your sorry ass

Was thinking about going full Archery for my Argonian assassin, but I've seen a few shots of the zoom in kills with melee and none for bows or magic. Anyone know if there are any of those zoom in kills for ranged attacks? If not, I may just stick with daggers for the fun scenes.

On Thunderbrew's build I like it a lot, though I'll likely move the lockpicking points over to get the dual wielding perks.

I have read that opening locks requires real life skill (and skill points, not perks) and is very easy once you get the hang of it, that frees at least many perk points for me!

It's not easy mode like Oblivion. You will lose your mind as a thief if you don't have some lockpicking perks. You could follow the tree up to Treasure Hunting and that would be sufficient. The sheer number of locks you encounter as a stealth class almost necessitate lockpicking abilities. You will really go mad if you dont.

From my understanding, you do not need the other two to get
Shadow warrior. As in smithing, you can go up either side of the tree.

To answer the last poster, I am changing things a bit now. Im definitely
dropping most, if not all, of the points in lockpicking and putting more into 1H
and something else.

The 5 pts into Alteration to get the 30% magic resistance will probably
be a good candidate.

lol, am I the only one that feels 49 isn't enough? Perhaps I'm just wanting my cake and eating it too. I'm having a hell of a time making a perk build for my characters.

No illusion? I find that really useful for an assassin, especially if you're playing as a Breton.

Also I'm looking for some advice on my assassin in terms of race. My "major" skills, as would have been in Oblivion, are:

Alchemy
Illusion
Sneak
Light Armor
Archery
One-handed
Lockpicking

I'm thinking either Argonian, Bosmer or Dunmer. Any suggestions?

For me, I dont see Illusion perks being needed for my build. Ill still use
them, but wont be putting perks there.

Here is the revision, along with thoughts after:

Alchemy:
Alchemist:5
Total: 5

Light Armor:
Agile Defender:5
Custom Fit:1
Unhindered:1
Wind Walker:1
Deft Movement: 1 (great avoidance)
Total: 9

Lockpicking:
Apprentice Locks:1
Quick Hands:1
Total: 2

Sneak:
Stealth:5
Backstab:1
Muffled Movement:1
Deadly Aim:1
Assassin’s Blade:1
Shadow Warrior:1
Total: 10

Pickpocket:
Light Fingers:1
Night Thief:1
Extra Pockets:1
Total: 3

Archery:
Overdraw:1
Eagle Eye:1
Steady Hand:2
Total: 4

One Handed:
Armsman:5
Dual Flurry:1
Dual Savagery:1
Fighting Stance:1
Savage Strike:1
Paralyzing Strike:1
Total:10

Smithing:
Steel Smithing: 1
Arcane Blacksmith:1
Elven Smithing:1
Advanced Armors:1
Glass Smithing:1
Dragon Armor:1
Total: 6

Total:49
---------------------------

I decided to put more perks into the 1 handed tree. It is much more powerful now.

The lockpinking I dumped down to 2 points just to get Quick Hands
(I think that will pay off for guards near gates and whatnot).

Im still debating Smithing. The problem is, you end up with allot of outdated
perks once you can start using dragon armor, and its still needs to be seen if
you can get this any other way. If I do drop any points in Smithing, Ill put 4 points
into Enchanting, which is all you need to get Extra Effect.

Cool man, thx for answering. What will you max out first? Your skill order please, guess sneak to the "max" first?

Sneak will be a main priority up until Assassins Blade.

Around the same priority will be Archery, One Handed, and
Smithing. Smithing I think will provide you with much faster upgrades
then the content you will be at. That will depend on how fast you can
acquire the materials.

Steady Hand will be a staple in this build, since the slowing down time
effect will be great and weakening the enemy. Also, Ive heard you can
make arrows with Smithing, which will insure a high supply.

Past level 50, when the leveling slows down, Ill aim towards 5 pts
into Alteration to max out Magic Resistance, and 4 points into Enchanting
to get Extra Effects. Both Id love to have early on, but no room for them.

Cheers.

Just saw some other similar builds and maybe it's wise to drop some pick pocket stuff in order to get more of 1h tree? Having more "bag space" is nice ofc, but not sure if it's needed.

That is probably true, because I wouldnt get that early on, and
by later in leveling, Ill have more stamina and a house by then.

Ill look into moving those, but I dont think it would go into the
One Handed tree. Ive got the main ones I need, and I dont like
pigeonholing myself to use certain weapons if I can avoid it.

Looks like I may drop the 3 from pickpocketing and perhaps
pick up the other three I missed in Sneak to max it out.

Ye idd, that's what I thought too. Thx for a quick reply once again. Are you sitting and waiting for the game like me atm? :spotted owl: Hehe.

PS: Haven't touched TES in ages now, so I don't recall correctly if playing this kind of a character will be much harder than. let's say a "normal" straight forward warrior arch type. Hope not, since I'm a bit rusty. But I've always preferred stealth/tactic engagement in similar games or FPS ones. :toughninja: Always been either spec ops/sniper/rogue character and now I'm kinda torn between trying your build with daggers playstyle and bow marksman kinda. Still not sure and frustrated since it's only a couple of hours left for activation and I like to have my things/plan ready and done before the storm :shocking:
