Bethesda Why I Didn't Buy Skyrim...

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 8:26 am

60 bucks is big price for third and second world countrys like Russia or Afganistan. But in Russia Skyrim cost only 15 bucks.

For countrys like USA,Canada,Germany,Norway,Sweden,England etc 60 bucks is nothing.

And ppl play action-shooters for 10-20 hours and getting bored. When you play Morrowind,Oblivion you playing it for 4-6 yearrs so i think it worth support Bethesda for evryone who can afford it.

in Russia games cost $15? I go to Ukraine often because I have family over there and I can assure you that games cost more than $15. In fact, to own a gaming system over there is a luxury most cannot afford. The average salary in Ukraine (and their neighbor Russia) is about $300 a month.

It's funny, game cost 60€ in GameStop and I bought it for 32€. I would've gladly paid that 60€ for Skyrim. OP needs attention and I'm new to the forums even tho I've played since Morrowind and sometimes I'm really wondering why wont mods close these attention-seeking topics..

Gaaah, this thread is so full of fail on both sides of the argument. I can't believe people can't wrap their heads around basic economics. I guess the state of education in our country really is as bad as they say...

I now agree with the OP, this is an effin Snow-job for 60 bucks, its a graphic re-skin of Oblivian with some added voice overs, heck, even some of the quests appear to be the same. All I see is minor changes here and there.

All in all, it is not a "new" game and over-priced for what it gives. Dont get me wrong I loved ES:O, but I expected something new besides graphics and sound, some would call that a patch....

Has anyone told the OP that the collector's edition is $150??? :whistling:

Most PC games are priced at $49.99. And most of those go to 39.99 after a few months. Skyrim is easily 200+ hours of gameplay, so $59.99 is totally justified. The game is HUGE. For comparison, I barely got more than 20 hours out of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and I paid $49.99 for it.

Offical Russian skyrim with 1C russian voice and text translation cost 450-600 russians rubles = 15 US dollars

Also russian official Blizzard World of Warcraft cost 2-3 times cheaper then European World of Warcraft. You can buy EURO version in Russia and other East Europe countrys to play on both european and russian speaking servers. But still 90% ppl from ex-USSR countrys prefer russian official WoW cas its much cheaper.

Only difference between euro and russian account is that they can only play on russians servers while ppl who have euro acc can play on both English/German/French/Spanish and Russians servers.

Blizzard's LEGAL Russians WOW servers located in Germany just like other english speaking servers - so connection speed and ping is same. The only problem russian WoW support really svcks compare to European WOW support.

I have to say, that $60 isn't a heck of a lot to spend on such an Awesome game! I really like these Dragon (slaying) type games, and I bought DragonAge II back in March(?) got many hours of playing in it, and when I heard that Elder Scrolls/Skyrim was going to blow it away, I thought, wow! I kinda feel ripped off, but DA2 is different, and I'm really anticipating a lot of cool stuff with this game. Although be it, it's a lot more complex than DA2, but I think the differencity will make it all worth the while! I have not played it for 50 hours like some of you hard-core gamers(LOL!) But I have played it some, and the scenery, the people, the Dragons(WOW!!! They're really definitive! A lot of detail in to them!), quests, etc, etc is a lot to look forwards to.

Take if for what it's worth! But even though I pre-paid for it at New Egg for $47, I would pay full price and have no regrets!!

Lots to enjoy and Dragonslayin'!

You seriously took the time to post this and then argue your point? You must not have any MMO's to play right now to be that bored.

Don't you know the PC gaming industry is hurting do to piracy? Go fight piracy for a noble cause if you're that butt hurt.

This dude does not make as much money as he says he does everybody knows that he is lying to everybody on the forum most likely he went to the store thinking it was it was 49.99 like other pc games which the tax is maybe 55 and some change he probaly been saving up lawnmower money from the summer time and thought that was the price when he got the store he was mad, so he made up some story he makes this much money a year and with his riches he some principals about money. Look here i dont make close to a 100'000 a year but if i have to spend 60 bucks for a game it will be this cause i will get mods that make the game even more worth it, it will last for years unlike the xbox are ps3 version of the games so i cant complain about my purchase, and one thing i know i will be playing this until the next elder scrolls and thats worth more than the 60 bucks i payed for it. Peace.

Two things are going to happen before anyone reads this:

1. It's going to be disregarded by the community as a whine and not read
2. What's said is going to be justified by those who made the purchase

... neither of which help me. But I feel it needs to be said to the company should anyone care to read it.

Now to set the stage, I've watched this game for a LONG time. I juggled a pre-order on it for many months and just waited to see. I'm now seeing the rave reviews and friends comments and want the game even more now. Except for one thing... the price.

Now I get it. The social and industry norm now is that PC gamers buy games at console pricing. All part of an inflated market for those trying to make an extra dollar. But I can assure you that I have NO plans to EVER purchase a PC game for $59.99. I wont do it, and wont even give it a second thought. I wont go into the details other than I've been gaming for YEARS when new top titles released at $19.99 on CD-ROM and 5 1/4" disk. I saw the industry adjust with the times and slowly go to $29.99 then $39.99 and then stick for many years at $49.99. This new "concept" of paying now another $10 and often times for digital downloading is absurd and frankly disappointing that you'd think me that stupid.

So Bethesda... plan on something soon. Drop the price to a normal respectable PC price ($49.99) and I'll gladly pay it. I have every intentions on owning this game when the price is right. I want very much to experience the game and enjoy it... but I absolutely refuse to contribute to the inflation. Now of course the argument could be made that with my IGN account I could have purchased it from D2D during the pre-order period for $47.00. Trust me I wish I had. But the thought of it originally being a full $60 pricetag from the start bothered me. We're now seeing EA doing it, Activision, and others. Bethesda is one of the latest to fall victim to the "norm".

I guess I should also say that I own a PS3 and 360 (among almost every other console since the Atari). I've paid full price to include $59.99 for console games for a long time... but I accept that for consoles. I don't for PC's. Again I wont go into the reasons because I don't want a flame war. But Bethesda... please drop this price soon so I can enjoy the game!

Boy you are stupid. ... So what you are saying you think the price on PC is to much.... yet you also have a PS3 and 360 and all other consoles that ever came out.

You do say "But I accept that for console games" ... So you just talked yourself in a knot here and dont even realise that!

... because if you bought this game on Console,... you'd find it alright, yet on PC you dont?

WELL THEN GO BUY IT ON CONSOLE!

For a person claiming to make 100,000 a year (a few posts later), having tons of consoles,... you do indeed make a pathetic post about 10 bucks difference. You dont even realize there are people in this world that would be happy to have even 1 console,... and barely have the money to even buy games for 1.

:flamethrower: You deserve to get flamed here !!

I remember reading an article which stated that Bethesda would consider porting Skyrim to the Wii U when it comes out. The main point was that they make a game and will release it on consoles that support the technology they used. Therefore, 1 game is created and sent to the systems. In Skyrim's case, that would be PC, 360, and PS3. So it's not like the PC version is of a lesser quality, there is no reason it should be a different price from the console versions really at least in my opinion.

Basic market economics dictates that... so long as people are willing to pay it, the price is right. You raise the price just until people won't buy, then come back a tiny bit and leave it there. Go as high as possible until people start to grumble but still fork over the money. At that point, the price is right. That's all there is to it.

Yes, people will buy at $49.99. But people will also buy at $59.99 Which would you rather have?

Honestly, if you were selling something you had made, you would all do the same thing.

I have a job. I make almost $100,000 year with my overtime (base pay is $72,000). That is of course irrelevant and the principle is what I'm discussing. Which has already been disregarded as I thought it would in the first couple replies.
So... you make 70-100k a year, but you wont pay 10 extra dollars for a game that will provide most people with over 500 hours of gameplay? (Putting the game at 12 cents an hour, as opposed to a movie that would be like $5 an hour. For reference.)

I didn't like the price either, but it was Skyrim. Arguably we got a great game for its money and replay value, unlike the usual garbage such as Madden or Rage. So I caved and purchased online to get it. The real evil is hyping a game with egregious lies so that launch is the main income. See Dragon Age 2 and Fallout: New Vegas. Obsidian, especially for their game that was junk for a year before patches somewhat fixed things. Then they cranked out more trash with Dead Money and Honest Hearts.

"I'm a PC player. You know what that means? I'm more intelligent than anyone who pays consoles, and I refuse to stoop to their level and pay $10 whole dollars more than what I consider an agreeable price for possibly the greatest game made this decade! It's 6/10000 of my salary, and I won't stand for this blatant robbery!" - OP, justifying the occupy wall street movement.

I agree that steam is a rip off. In Europe there is still a disparity between PC pricing and console pricing. Thankfully! Although I have seen Skyrim for sale here at prices ranging from £25.99 to £39 which is ofc silly.

Im glad you don't get to enjoy the game if your going to be that stubborn. They put a lot of work into it and its worth the price tag. You are just being stubborn and missing out. So sad for you...
