Bethesda Why I Didn't Buy Skyrim...

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 6:18 pm

So you are whingeing paying 60 US bucks for a game and you earn 100 000 bucks US a year. Gee wish I got your money to play with every year. I have to pay $89 Australian for the game. You lot get your game cheaply. A console price for this game $110 Australian.

You realize the play time for this game is worth atleast 5 "normal" singleplayer games.

And you're whining about $10? When about every other game costs this much?

Please think about the other end, and take a read of this post

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1277317-development-cost/

don't mind the math in this thread, doubt those are accurate. The idea is that the company needs to cover all the expense during the development stage and making enough money to maintain the old game while develop the next title.

if you can't pay $59.99 for a game, then this is not the market for you. Son, it is simply illogical to ask Bathesda to set the price for game as large as Skyrim to be what you are asking.

I used to buy Sega Genesis games in the mid 90s for over 70 bucks. Those were usually RPGs and even imports from Japan.

I have a job. I make almost $100,000 year with my overtime (base pay is $72,000).
Instead of making this post next time, how about you go write a letter to your boss for a $10 raise? Make sure to list reasons of inflation and irrelevant examples like Netflix.

Two things are going to happen before anyone reads this:

2. What's said is going to be justified by those who made the purchase

I am not sure I understand this line here, do you mean that "those who made the purchase" are going to agree with "What's said" in your post?

You know, I had read a post recently talking about how awesome and mature these forums were, and I made the comment that, while that is generally true, the posters here have a tendency to get crazy whenever someone says negative things about something.
That used to be just... an occasional, ugly little thing. But lately it's gone completely out of control. You've all managed to swing the community of this forum into an awkward reverse of most forums wherein everyone goes completely bat-[censored] nuts, screaming and insulting people, over the tiniest of complaints.

Congratulations; most forums are full of incessant whining and random un-provoked insults. But this oh-so-great and special forum is now full of people incessantly insulting other people with wild eyes and frothing mouths because they dislike... something. Anything.

The problem op is people are stupid fan persons these days who lack principles and fundamental understanding of economics. They didnt raise PC prices due to need because of the expense, they raised it for GREED. The reason Console users pay more is because Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo charge licensing fees, and of course game companies aren't going to pay that, so they pass it on to the customer. Activison originally tacked on the 10$ originally (Yes, Kotick admitted this) to squeeze more money out of PC consumers, and naturally since all the Call of Duty idiots payed it, it became the 'norm' as other companies decided they could probably get away with it too.

The sad fact is the 1% have such a hold on the 99% is pure stupidity of the masses, the lack of principals for most people to take a stand against what is wrong and the fact fan persons are so brainwashed they'll happily bend over and take it to get their 'fix'. Sadly, I doubt people will start waking up until they push new Games to being 100$ (and they WILL keep pushing, if you think this gen is bad, wait till the next Generation of consoles come out).

Yeah, 10$s doesnt sound like much, but keep adding 10$ + 10$ + 10$ and it adds up.

Lol this child is a blantant troll or extremely immature... crying over an additional $10 when you get 10x the content, and better quality, than almost any other game ever released.

You earn $100,000 hahah and I'm the High King

I thought Bethesda were a for-profit enterprise. I didn't know they were a charity.

Games are cheaper then they ever have been, i remember paying 50 dollars for Contra, which gave me roughly 16 hours of enjoyment...

60 Dollars is money well spent for the amount of hours you are entertained, what about the 18$ movie tickets for a brief 1.5 hour ride?

Costs have gone up because it costs more to produce them, not just inflation, they use bigger teams, more code, more content, etc. $60 is like a 3 hour bar trip, you get more than 3 hours from Skyrim.

Seriously. It's bad enough that I could bet no one here would be able to find a single thread without some sort of baseless insult in it, but this specific thread is now 9 pages of random people shouting "lol u dumb!" with no understanding of the OP's concern at all beyond "more money", or even just "Bethesda bad".

100 guys have been making this for 3 years and you think it costs too much? Do you know how much it costs to have that much people working for 3 years....and they also need profit to make more games after this..

I am happy to see people profit when they do good work. I've put almost 30 hours into this game and I've barely scratched the surface. That's serious value.

I actually looked it up once, and 50$ ten years ago is at or possibly a little over 60 today, so you can contribute most of the increasing costs to inflation. Not that any of that matters, because Skyrim is going to get you a lot more time for your money than almost any other game.

Two things are going to happen before anyone reads this:

1. It's going to be disregarded by the community as a whine and not read
2. What's said is going to be justified by those who made the purchase

... neither of which help me. But I feel it needs to be said to the company should anyone care to read it.

Now to set the stage, I've watched this game for a LONG time. I juggled a pre-order on it for many months and just waited to see. I'm now seeing the rave reviews and friends comments and want the game even more now. Except for one thing... the price.

Now I get it. The social and industry norm now is that PC gamers buy games at console pricing. All part of an inflated market for those trying to make an extra dollar. But I can assure you that I have NO plans to EVER purchase a PC game for $59.99. I wont do it, and wont even give it a second thought. I wont go into the details other than I've been gaming for YEARS when new top titles released at $19.99 on CD-ROM and 5 1/4" disk. I saw the industry adjust with the times and slowly go to $29.99 then $39.99 and then stick for many years at $49.99. This new "concept" of paying now another $10 and often times for digital downloading is absurd and frankly disappointing that you'd think me that stupid.

So Bethesda... plan on something soon. Drop the price to a normal respectable PC price ($49.99) and I'll gladly pay it. I have every intentions on owning this game when the price is right. I want very much to experience the game and enjoy it... but I absolutely refuse to contribute to the inflation. Now of course the argument could be made that with my IGN account I could have purchased it from D2D during the pre-order period for $47.00. Trust me I wish I had. But the thought of it originally being a full $60 pricetag from the start bothered me. We're now seeing EA doing it, Activision, and others. Bethesda is one of the latest to fall victim to the "norm".

I guess I should also say that I own a PS3 and 360 (among almost every other console since the Atari). I've paid full price to include $59.99 for console games for a long time... but I accept that for consoles. I don't for PC's. Again I wont go into the reasons because I don't want a flame war. But Bethesda... please drop this price soon so I can enjoy the game!

Gaaah, this thread is so full of fail on both sides of the argument. I can't believe people can't wrap their heads around basic economics. I guess the state of education in our country really is as bad as they say...

*Takes a course on economics
*Visits a forum composed mostly of minors
*GAH! WHY DOESN'T ANYONE UNDERSTAND ECONOMICS?
*Continues to try to make sure everyone knows he thinks he's intelligent.

Lol. You know what this is like? It's like a orthopedist walking down the street, and laughing at strangers
because they don't know the difference between a comminuted fracture, and an impacted fracture.

No one is impressed. Go wax your ego elsewhere.
