[REQ] Better Imperial Armors

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 8:57 am

I find it really silly that so many Imperial soldiers wear those dorky leather helmets which, quite honestly, look dumb and would barely protect you. I'd definitely like to see a mod that makes all the formerly-leather-helmet wearing soldiers switching over to the metal imperial helmet. Also, I'd love to see a mod that gives Imperial armor some pants or something, because while I understand and love the style and influences that are guiding the Imperial armor design, it's Skyrim. It's cold and snowing all the time, and not wearing pants is just silly. I mean, at the very least I think some fur lining should be added to their uniforms. A modified Wolf Armor is something I could see many Legion soldiers wearing, as it is still that Greco-Roman style of armor, yet it is adapted for the freezing northern climate of Skyrim.

I would tend to agree...And if your worried about straying too far from the "Roman-esque" feel of the armor, dont. Because they DEF wore pants under the kilts in the cold dark forests of Germania...

And I think it would look awsome for perhaps the higher up armors (everything above the leather) to have a fur lining around the shoulders/neck area...Kinda like Maximus' armor at the beginning of Gladiator when they were fighting in Germania

I have to admit that I liked the flavor of the Oblivion Imperial Armor better than Skyrim's current Romanesque look. I still have the momentary urge to whip out the old cowboy repeater and shoot Imperial Soldiers every time I see one.

Guess the decline of the empire and the cost of the wars made the plate a little too expensive for the common soldier.

I definately perfer this more Roman looking armor to the more Greek (helmet atleast) influence of Oblivion...

It just suites the Empire so much more, considering they practically ARE the Roman Empire...lol

I love the FONV referance tho, lol. Except I was always pulling outt my cowboy repeater to blast the NCR, not the Legion..ha

And it is a province. In the Roman Empire the soldiers looked mildly different everywhere you went. I doubt they can afford plate for the entire continent, especially after the Great War.

@Morchai
I love the theme of Skyrim's Legion soldiers as opposed to Oblivion's (I was never a fan of that plate armor...) but I just think it could be more practical and realistic.

@JEbach
Yeah, totally, I'd love that. I'd also like to see more Legion soldiers wearing the Hoplite helmet that you can find, especially since the ingame model appears to have some sort of balaclava-like face mask underneath, which aside from padding and comfort would serve an extremely practical purpose of warmth in Skyrim.

Maybe I should just learn to mod for Skyrim, I used to mod for Star Wars games and Total War games all the time. >.>

Edit: also, like you guys, when I saw the Legion soldiers for the first time I was heavily reminded of New Vegas, and I actually really liked it. For whatever reason, this sort of armor/theme has a much darker and grittier feeling for me than the full plate armors of Oblivion did. Much more blood, sweat, and tears feeling.

Yeah, Cyrodill being the Imperial homeland, the Legion would def have different lookin armor than the Legion of the other provinces (much like the Romans would have adapted there clothing and armor for the place they were) I just feel like the difference of the armor in Cyrodil and Skyrim is way too much..The Romans would have never looked THAT different from Romans of other provinces. But I am glad they went this direction with the armor even tho it is so different from the Oblivion armor. It suites the Legion much more in my opinion.

If your looking for mods to improve the Legions look here is acouple;

This one makes the studded Imperial armor look like Imperial Chainmail armor instead and in my opinion is WAY cooler looking. Definately has a Republic Hastati look to it.

And this next mod the Imperial Legion Overhaul retextures the heavy armors making them look more, "Ornate" as the author states. And there are different versions if you dont want the gold trim and whatnot but I think its a definate improvement. I also think it makes more soldiers wear the heavy armor.

Hope it helps until there is a full blown overhaul!

NP, I REALLY dig the chainmain armor, it is such an improvement over the studded armor..But I dont think you can use both mods atm since the overhaul replaces all the light armor with the heavy..
