Bookshelves Broken in 1.2

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 10:02 am

ok the first thing was that if I put a book on a bookshelf, then activate the bookshelf and remove the book from there, the book would remain on the shelf while giving you a copy and you could never add another book to it.

the second thing was if I reached the 'limit' for the bookshelf and having it notify me i could not put any more books on it, at that point if i closed out the selection menu, the bookshelf would be empty and the books would be removed from my inventory.

Placing a 'couple' books on the shelf didn't break it. And if I 'read' the book then took the book it wouldn't break it. but the above two seem to break them every time for me in 1.2, in 1.1 the bookshelves worked perfectly and doing the above didn't cause any problems. looks like another wonderful little bug brought on by the 1.2 patch.

first almost indestructible dragons in Novice mode, and now this.... arg.... and i just got the windhelm house too... im gonna go see if this is happens in the other houses as well... whiterun would be a good test... if i can still get that house...

Yep same thing happens in Whiterun... also .... if you fill a bookshelf, even partially, then remove the books from it by reading them, you can't fill the bookshelf back up again. In 1.1 you could add / remove books from the shelves... now you can't with 1.2 .... I'm finding more n' more little glitches produced by this patch that i'm not liking... they ruin the fun for me... yes... I like to decorate the houses :P

This bug is easily avoided though, just load the autosave from when you entered the interior where the bookshelf is located and place again. Happened to me before, but as I said, it is easily avoided.

The bookshelf appears to become locked in whatever state it was before you overfilled it. If some books were already on the shelf from a previous bookshelf interaction when the bookshelf is overfilled, not only does the bookshelf lockup but all the books on the shelf lockup as well.

This bug is easily avoidable and recoverable as long as one is aware of it and does not make significant progress before reloading a save from before the bug was activated. However, it is annoying to have to carefully monitor how many items are being stored on a bookshelf when no other containers appear to have a content limit.

i did this numberious times, and it kept doing it. entered the house after buying it and decorating it, so its not something i triggered earlier then that. best i can do is go back to before i bought the house, as with the autosaves going back before entering the home, or after entering the home its still there. It also accures with every house purchased, not just one. first time i've ever encountered this happening. it seems to be a constant, not random.

I have experienced this glitch consistently on the bookshelves in Breezehome and Vlindrel hall.

they probably broke the bookshelves to prevent powerleveling using that one trick with the book. Honestly they shouldn't worry about exploits, they should fix bugs. It's called self control, to not use the exploits. There are some exceptions, such as that gold exploit with the vendors, since that's so tempting since one is always using vendors.

That exploit still works. You don't need a bookshelf to do it.
