Calling All PS3 Users WIthout Problems?

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 3:13 am

Hi All,

I've been following all of this lagfest, broken, glitch ridden game talk on the net and especially in these forums. What I would like to know is how many people have, say completed most of the main quests, levelled their character and perks to very high, found most areas, explored most dudgeons etc etc WITHOUT major problems?

I'm 30hrs in with around 6mb save and have had a bit a stutter in the game on new areas etc. but nothing game breaking. Also the worst stuttering I had was in the south & north west.. That was ages ago when I was there as well. Save was probably 4mb then. All in all my games been pretty sound considering the type of game it is and I've been absolutely loving playing it.

My issue is do I carry on playing and possibly break my save / quests etc or do I wait?

How many have nailed the bulk of the main stuff with no problems (as such)??

These forums are full of the problems and I want honest answers as how many haven't had any of note.

Thanks

do you have any houses in skyrim? and if so do you collect alot of items and store them? im a veteran of bethesda games and i like to collect one of everything, all the unique items etc.
playing the game this way makes your save file alot bigger. my issues arrise from having to change my play style to enjoy this game. it doesnt sit right with me and goes against bethesdas "be who you want to be" style motto

I'm 70 hours in with a 10mb save and I've finished the main quest and the companions quest line.

It runs fine for a few hours before it starts lagging a little bit, restarting the game instantly fixes that though.

The only place I always get lag all the time is in Whiterun, but even then it's nowhere near as bad as it is in some of the videos I've been seeing.

my lag problem varies from not too bad to very bad. i would like to think that this patch will allow me to play the game with some sort of consistent average framerate rather than dramatic changes

Yeah I like to do that once my stuff gets high end, which with smithing etc I getting near. I've held of houses and got rid of autosaves ages ago. I sell most of the stuff I get and have one drawer at the companions that I'm storing dragon bones in etc. I like a streamlined tweaked character anyway though I do feel as if my play style is being dictated to by fear of the LAG :(

This was a game I wanted to invest 150+ hours into over the coming months as it stands that doesn't seem possible does it? I don't want to have to worry about save sizes, restarting the PS3, lag or anything else I just want to PLAY..

I've seen someone playing it on a mac book pro - flawlessly (80hrs in) - if the version of the game I've PAID for doesn't work I'll go and get one that does. I certainly won't be paying twice :)

I'm at 40 hours with a 8MB+ game save and it's starting to creep in, getting worse with each play session which usually lasts 2 hours.

it is a shame. if the patch doesnt fix the problems then i guess ill have to change the way i play if i want to play skyrim at all. seems bad that bethesda has done this being that one of skyrims key selling points is that youre supposed to be able to be who you want to be.

Also, usually when I play for 2 hours and the lag starts setting in and I try to play through it, my system freezes. It's like a given every time I play for more than 2 hours, sometimes the game will be on for no longer than 3 minutes.

im sorry. just thought id say my bit. i figure that people with a smaller savefile to me, but around the same level, must be playing the game very differently. and the problem only shows itself and becomes a hinderence at around 7 or 8 mb. anyway i shall be quiet now :)

No all comments welcome I just wanted to see how many people (weigh extended play) could honestly say the game is fine? I have a feeling that there won't be many!! And due to the amount of lag this lag that threads It mixes it up a bit... different questions same answers I guess :)

if i were you id wait for the patch, or just try not to do much in game until said patch is installed. that way, if the patch fixes the issues, you wont have lost out on experiencing this game at its best

I had LAG with a file between 4-5mb during a busy dragon fight,
Now after doing cleanup of all items in inventory, I have managed to continue play , currently at ~7mb file size

thats whats so frustrating about this for me. hearing about skyrim influenced my buying of an hdtv and a new ps3 console because my old one died. its gonna me a major let down if the patch doesnt do the trick

STEINBJORN: (My Character) (I started to keep record how the save file size lives vhile I play the game and what I have done as main thing that time.)

Saved Files: (Details taken from load game section. Name of saved file, Character's current lvl, Time played, File Size)

Started the game:
Prisoner: Level: 1 - Time: 000h12m16s - File size: 2837 KB

Arrived To Riverwood:
Riverwood Entry: File size: 3000 KB - Level: 2 - Time: 001h36m146s

Practising Smithing:
Faendal's House: Level: 2 - Time: 004h08min20sec. - File size: 2927 KB (1)
Faendal's House: Level: 3 - Time: 005h46min05sec. - File size: 2951 KB (1)
Faendal's House: Level: 4 - Time: 006h45min26sec. - File size: 2939 KB (1)
Faendal's House: Level: 5 - Time: 008h26min05sec. - File size: 2956 KB (1)
Skyrim (outside save): Level: 6 - Time: 009h38min13sec. - File size: 3223 KB (2)

Faendal's House: Level: 7 - Time: 013h08min30sec. - File size: 3099 KB (3)
Bleak Faals Temple: Level: 8 - Time: 016h45min51sec. - File size: 3240 KB (4)
Faendal's House: Level: 9 - Time: 018h37min20sec. - File size: 3145 KB (5)
Faendal's House: Level: 10 - Time: 019h26min40sec. - File size: 3169 KB (6)
Faendal's House: Level: 11 - Time: 022h13min20sec. - File size: 3158 KB (1)

(1) At the moment I am making firewoods for cash and smithing for better equipments and for cash. Being only at inside Riverwood village. Saving always face against the wall it keeps 3 KB smaller that saved file. I have tested it and yes it's not big thing but I try to keep it so small what I can. I have planned to go explore soon Riverwood - Helgen erae and harvest materials for Alchemy, Cooking and Smithing.
(2) Cleared one mine, Harvesting incredients and hunting at Riverwood - Helgen - Falkreath. Haven't been or located Falkreath yet and trying to avoid it too.
(3) Back in Riverwood from my travels (check (2)). Visited at Helgen. I found dog what came to my party. (It would be nice if I could give it a name.) I took quest from the shop. I keeped few hours break but didn't quit game, it was paused. Thats why almost 4h difference to earlier save.
(4) Before leaving Riverwood "my" dog what I found lost somewhere and I don't know where. I was going to do quest for shop keeper at Riverwood.
(5) Done that Shopkeepers quest.
(6) Only smithing and selling.

No lag yet. Only problem has been that "Local map" may show black cover over places where I have been already, but this is nothing to do with file size issue.
I have liked to play this game so far. It can be that bigest problems of the game has been fixed when I have "too big" saved files. I can update this if it can help any way.
I don't know does it.

[EDIT]: I play Skyrim without online connection even I can keep my PS3 online all the time. I think but I'm not sure that keeping PS3 online and getting messages and going to XMB could cause some freesinf problems aswel. Readed about this somewhere, but don't remeber where.

[EDIT2]: I have 3 years old (=next Xmass) fat 80 GB PlayStation 3. I have disabled all autosave options and I save only manualy.

[EDIT3]: I have 1080p capability TV.

[EDIT4]: Added one savefle information (2). PSN nick Quikka.

[Edit5]: Added savefile information lvl 11. Does this help any how or can I stop updating this?

60 Plus hours.
Level 40 plus character.
Have over 65% of the trophies.
Own several very decorated houses.
Save game size is over 11mb

Lag is not a problem.
Game has frozen twice.
Had to reload from an old save once due to a quest bug (mostly my fault)

I see a little lag once and a while, but only noticed it in a horrible fashion when I came across a forsworn camp being attacked by a dragon. That was one of my two frozen times.

Average game session is about 5 hours. Logged in some longer ones in the last few days - was sick , then work canceled due to snow storm.

My friends and family who are playing (also on the PS3) likewise have not had any issues. I am - however - much further along than them.

I know some people are having issues, and this can not be denied. But I am not. Game runs fine. I have a few bugs that I've learned to avoid (like... picking up obvious quest items before getting the quest..)

Can not complain a bit. Skyrim has met with all my expectations. I can not wait to see the kinks ironed out in the patch coming up.

A couple of posts have been removed. If you think someone on this forum is trolling, then you need to report it and let a moderator deal with it. Calling someone a troll is considered flaming on this forum, and it can lead to warning increases and posting suspension.

I'm a bit tentative about this thread, myself - but thus far it seems to be progressing fine without devolving into the typical flame-fest. And honestly, in this sub-forum? That's enough for me to leave it open for the time being.

Grats! First person with a bigger save file then me not having issues that i have seen. I find it interesting and frustrating but am truly happy for ya enjoy!
As far as the whole apology thing. That's crap. No one should have to give their PSN to everyone on the boards just to "prove something" to someone. Not like he is laughing at us or something...
I also think a lack of replies could be expected since this is...the board for people with problems! lols. I'm sure many people are enjoying the game as we all were at first...blissfully unaware of any issue.
