Can't Decide, Heavy Armor or Light for Nord Warrior

Post » Thu Sep 06, 2012 12:38 am

Hey guys, Im just starting a new game with a Nord warrior( yet another one). I currently have my character wearing light armor for cuirass/body armor and heavy for gauntlets and feet. I cant really decide where to go with this. Should I work on developing my heavy armor skills along with the light or just stick to the light armor? I've played with other characters through to about level 20 before and the heavy armor looks so much better to me but I seem to have alot of trouble being over-encumbered with the weight of the cuirass. I havent found the Steed stone yet with any of my characters and I dont want to take advantage of knowing where the stone is.

Will I get my butt kicked-on adept level- with sticking with light armor? I'd rather focus on one armor type but Im not sure what I should do.
What do you who play Nord warrior types do?? Thanks in advance.

There's a perk in the heavy armor tree that makes worn heavy armor weightless, or something like that. It's pretty useful.

I went light armour. It was personal preference but I think Nords seem to be more about Light Armour as the fur armour seem to suit the barbaric look.

Though they're big built which is a positive about wearing heavy armour as they have the strength to wear it. But since they're so big they're probably slow and so a lighter armour might work better with them.

But it's all preference. I usually base my judgement on the stats. So if a Nord gets +5 to Light Armour I think that is they're specialty. But in Oblivion they got +5 to Heavy Armour so you cannot judge these days. Especially when Redguards have a lot of magic ability.

For a Nord I go light armour and get smithing up to scale. Good enough armour, still looks the part. I only like the big armours like ebony and the like on followers. You move faster, the weightless perk is at a relatively low skill if you actually need it at all, and the stamina regen perk is a perfect for a lightly armoured warrior.

Just go Light, all the way.

Heavy is pretty much useless. You get all the protection you need from Light, and you can carry more stuff. I think the light armors look better overall as well.

All depends on how you fight. If you are building up shield skills, and use the faster (lighter) one handed weapons, then you can get away with light armour fairly well....if you are using two handed weapons, it's best to go heavy till you are a bit higher in your combat skills.

If you are on PC, there are also a few mods out there that provide backpacks, bags, bandoliers, equipment belts and such that increase your carrying capacity without some magical upgrade to your abilities...same same for some horse mods where you can load your gear on your horse.
