Can the LAG be fixed by patching?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 3:26 am

I actually took the time to register here because of the game-breaking lag issue that I started experiencing after 30 or so hours. After reading through the threads, my question still remains: Can the PS3 version be made playable via patch? I'm very skeptical.

The reason I'm skeptical: This is not some bug or glitch that gets through QA unnoticed. Quest glitches, environment issues and graphical bugs are all understandable in a game of this scope. This is not that. There is NO WAY Bethesda didn't know about the save file LAG issue prior to launch. So why wasn't it addressed? The logical answer is that it was too far gone for a solution. I'm pretty disappointed in this shameful act by Bethesda . I was really hoping to hear some specifics from them on this issue, but I have a feeling that Marketing is simply figuring out how to spin this one.

I'm watching and waiting for resolution.

I remember in the times of Oblivion that Bethesda released a patch for the PS3 where the textures and loading times got improved.
Patches are all part of the code of the game. If they can improve textures and loading times, they can also surely remove the lag.

You guys are forgetting one thing. The lag isn't because of the game putting so much information on the screen that the PS3 can't render it.
The lag is there because eventually you are exploring so much of the world that the saves are saving that information as well.
It saves every location you went, the enemies you killed, the loot you gathered and picked up. This all accumulates to an eventual file size of more than 10MB.

And thanks to some faulty error the PS3 can't work hand in hand with Skyrim.
This CAN be fixed. It's just a matter of time or if Bethesda wants to fix it.

I think the patch would let us play a little deeper into the game without lag, but eventually, because of the nature of this bug, it would appear again, damaging all the progress game and leaving it unplayable...once again. S

Can it be done: I'm not sure, as I'm not a coder but at a guess I'd say yes with so much user feedback on this, they should be able to track the problem and kill it or make a work-around where items and bodies vanish sooner.

Will it be done: Ahh now theres the question, gamesas's PS3 history is not good, I'd say at best we have a 50/50 chance.

if it's indeed a save bug glitch of course they cane be fixed....

On the game itself I can't imagine how somebody play about 15 hours (like me) without or near without lag...and then another 15 hours to play with lag...

it make no sense....to me...

I think it because the first 15 hours you didn't discover a lot of locations, didn't kill as many people, etc... and after your first 15 hours, if you add another 15 hours you are now at 30 hours, with a lot more info to stock on save game.

The problem should lie in the game code and all a patch is, is a code that fixes problems so I believe it is fixable

I'm sceptical personally. Ultimately the game just appears to be too big for the PS3

If they could go back and start again, maybe. As it is, it strikes me that they'd need a massive re-work.

I don't think the PS3 is a capable format unless the whole thing is re-worked

Can it be fixed? Im going with no!

If it could be fixed, then, one would hope, Bethesda would have done it during development.

The fact that the game has been released in it's current state, tells me either Bethesda don't know how to fix it, or they aren't really bothered enough to fix it.

If the game was tested adequately, Bethesda would have come across this problem, because let's face it, it is the complete opposite of "rare". This leads me to believe that they didn't care enough about this version of the game in development to make sure it's playable, and probably aren't going to care enough to fix it now.

I for one, will never put my hand in my wallet for another Bethesda game. Ever.

Well seeing as this in fact a game breaking error as when you reach a certain point you cant play any more due to the extremely low FPS. If they cannot fix this or choose not to then I and I'm sure many others want a refund I don't buy a game thinking "Oh wait I better not remove the plastic packaging in case this doesn't work" which is usually the reason you get when trying to return it. I purchased this game in good faith only to be let down and if this cannot or will not be fixed I know my rights.

Should be a complex fix; they will have to rescript the coding.
