We can do this!

Hi Futzbucket,

First of all, thanks for being the voice of calm and reason in an otherwise rather frustrated forum. As a software developer, it's sometimes hard to make people understand that screaming about crashes and wailing at the developers accomplishes absolutely nothing.

I have a 120GB PS3 Slim running firmware 3.41. Fallout: New Vegas crashes (ie: the console becomes completely unresponsive, requiring a press on the power button to restart) at seemingly random times, usually after a few hours of gameplay.

I have been connected to the Internet during gameplay time but obviously not signed into PSN (because I haven't updated my firmware yet).

This evening, after work, I will start a new game with the Internet disabled, and post my results. I'm curious as to why the Internet would be causing game bugs, but I'm certainly willing to lend a hand as far as testing goes.

Apart from the complete lockups, the only bug / glitch I've experienced is a Gecko being stuck inside a rock.

I have a question: is there a 'full install' and a 'partial install'? Does the game 'fully install' when you pop the disc in and start playing the game normally, or is there some other way to do things that I'm not aware of?

PS: No, I do not have a hacked PS3, I'm just a lazy person who doesn't play newer games very often and ignores system update queries until a game insists on it.

I have the Fat 80GB Model PS3 (non BC) and I have had an issue with getting back into the Vegas Strip (so I can continue with my Main Quest), it freezes up every time I try to enter it. I do not have it hooked to the internet, I have tried deleting not only the FO : NV data, but my Fallout 3 data as well and reinstalling the NV data. I highly doubt the game data it installs is the entire game (unless of course the game is only 4GB in size). I am a little disappointed because I decided to rent the game instead of paying the $60 to buy it and have only been able to get to the point where you have to kill/disable Mr House (sorry if that spoiled things for someone). And now I have to return the game tomorrow =(

I'm running an original launch PS3, with an upgraded 250 GB hard drive. System is currently running the latest and greatest firmware.

I'm about 18 hours in, and my lag is starting to get noticeably bad. I had my first freeze up trying to enter Camp Mccarren. One thing I think that's been overlooked: The larger your save file gets, the worse the game seems to perform.

If memory serves from Fallout 3, once the game save hits about 10 MB, the game becomes borderline unplayable. I'm decently far into the game (Level 17), and have a save file at 5.6 MB....

Will certainly try disabling the internet connection, per Futzbucket's suggestion, but I wanted to throw the save file size out there as well. Anyone else notice a simular issue?

Hey, guys. Some of you might remember me from the Fo3., tech problems w/PS3 board. Man...I wish I could say it's nice to see you all again. Well, it is, but I wish it was under better circumstances.

Okay. The situation is we've got a new game with the same problems. Hey, we can work with this. Take a deep breath. This game just came out, so if we work quick on trying to isolate the problems we might speed the process on getting it patched. I'm going to need your help with this one.

Could some people please try playing the game under these certain conditions and please reply if you experience any freezing/locking/crashing while doing so.

1. If your PS3 is currently on, please shut it down normally (via the XBM till you ge the solid red-light). Wait 60 seconds, then turn it back on normally.
2. If your PS3 is online, please disconnect it's online ability during this testing. Using the XMB, go into "Network Settings" and select to turn off it's online abilities. This step could be nothing, but I'm also playing with the theory that PSN itself may be an issue.
3. Insert the Fo:NV disc, turn off the auto-save feature, fully install the game (if not done already), start a new game, and play normally. While it's okay to save manually, do not load a saved game after you start a new game.

And that's it. Using a freshly cleared cache with no online interferance, on a new (unbuged) game, with no cache overlaping, I suspect you'll see a much better running game with little to no freezing up to four hours of normal play.

When posting your results, please list what kind of PS3 you used and describe the problem you encountered, if any.

I know how frustrating this is. We've faced this beast before, and because of that we're better able to battle it. This time we've got Bethesda's interest, as this game just came out. Together we can beat this.

Thank you.

I don't know if this will help anything, just thought I'd throw it out there..

When my save file size reaches about 4500 kb my game starts crashing quite often... before that it really does not crash at all... just stutters a little bit..

I also noticed that as this file size grows the HDD light starts flashing constantly... even when just walking around or moving the camera around...

both my FO3 and FONV are exactly the same in this respect.... other than that they work okay...

I haven't been able to finish either game as a result of the crashing, however....

Here's an idea..... Why don't we just stop buying there Sh***y A** games and laugh as their company goes down the toilet. Why should we have to spend hours trying to solve their un-solveble and never ending glitches while they wallow in our hard earned money? My 1st hour.... 1.... HOUR!!!!!! the game crashed and I had to manualy shut my whole friggin system down. We should learn that Bethesda DOESN'T CARE! They proved that with Fo3. I searched forever looking for an offical statement from them explaining why their crappy games crashed constantly, but nothing. THEY... DON'T.... CARE!! Don't get me wrong, I loved Fallout 3. It was the perfect game for me, but if you spend more time re-booting and starting back from prior save points, then it's just not worth wasting any time on. I have the Game of the Year Edition and I can not finish it. The PITT is so glitchy that it is not playable so I haven't touched it since. Thats my two cents. Agree or disagree, it doesn't matter to me, but I'm done with them unless they can prove that they give a sh*t and that the consumer is who keeps them rolling in it.

P.S.
This was not targeted at any of you guys. I'm just venting about the company.
