Is that an Xbox 360 controller? You need the wireless USB adapter for that . Look for
Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows

Or maybe I don't know what you mean by Spartan but when I searched it was a 360 gamepad

Hmmm I can't find the controller, could you be more specific - who makes it? A link?

if the game detects it , anolog sticks should work automatically and in game menu (under controls),, you should be able to select a control action then press a button on gamepad and it should take over that action. game auto detects my Nyko air flo and works this way. but it also comes with game mapping software where i can just map keyboard keys to gamepad buttons if it don't. you can also download free software that does this in many cases.

http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/

use this to emulate windows xbox 360 controller behaviour using a normal USB controller. extract the .exe into your skyrim folder (not data files), run it, and click yes to allow it to create configuration and .dll files it needs to emulate a 360 controller. use the application to map your USB controller's buttons/anologue sticks to xbox 360 equivalents, then run the game and if it isn't already enabled, enable xbox 360 controller under gameplay options.

After giving up on the performance loss of using Ugridstoload I tried using my controller tonight and it works flawlessly!

Now i'm a mouse user by choice but when you want to recline back on the couch away from your desk, then a controller helps especially when your running your pc game off the tv.

I use a Logitech Wireless Gamepad F710
Works flawlessly & all keys are remappable through the ingame menu
first make sure you click the checkbox for 360 controller under gameplay settings or it won't read your controller
