We're working on a CAP update for Skyrim; as soon as an ETA is known I'll let you guys know
10 Nov

Hopefully this will fix at least a few of the issues.
I'm not very tech savvy, though. Is this a good thing? Should I be excited?

It will probably fix some issues, but don't expect anything dramatic, it's how the game handles hardware.

I'd certainly hope that the CAP for Skyrim will be included with 11.11. They are two separate things, after all, and he never gave us that ETA.

But yes, a CAP should give a decent boost in performance for all AMD/ATi card users, and will especially help out those of us with Crossfire.

I'm still rocking Catalyst 11.6 from some time this summer.

Driver updates can help, but I find it's best to wait until after a game has been patched as that often fixes the problem completely.

CAP is the only thing we need. I heard 11.11 is mainly for Rage, again. I think the issues with the shadows is game based, Bethesda has to release a patch for that. Same for crashes.

It's not the only thing 'we need'. We need Beth to fix this damn game.

It's the only real problem there is.

So will this only help people with Crossfire, or ATI users in general? I have an ATI Radeon 5870.

Probably helps a lot with Crossfire but not that much if using single Gpu.

This game is terribly consolified, and a as a result, the shadows are rendered on the CPU as opposed to the GPU so consoles can run it better.

CAPs change how the GPU handles information given to it by the game's .exe. So it improves performance for all ATi/AMD card users. The only reason that crossfire users will get a night and day difference is that the game won't even utilize crossfire at all right now, and the CAP will change that.
