Character re-design mod

Post » Thu Feb 23, 2017 2:24 am

Are there any graphical mods that make the characters in Morrowind and/or Oblivion look, well, less ugly? It's not a resolution problem since the landscapes, buildings, monsters and so on look fine but the designs of the NPCs, especially the Orcs and beast races are kind of a turnoff for me. :/ They don't have to look like Skyrim characters (that style of character probably wouldn't fit too well with the design of the rest of the game anyway) but any suggestion to touch up the potato head humans and elves, bad Shrek cosplay Orcs and whatever the Argonians and Khajiit are would be much appreciated. :)

http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/44676/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Foblivion%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D44676%26preview%3D&pUp=1 should be exactly what you're looking for, friend. This is the most popular face overhaul for Oblivion these days, and for very good reason. Thank Talos for nuska's gracious efforts.

As for Morrowind, the huge graphical mod compilation http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/36945/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fmorrowind%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D36945%26preview%3D&pUp=1 has a mod built into the main package that makes the faces a lot more appealing to look at, although I'm not sure if you're looking for a standalone mod.

Another (and newer) face mod you might take a look at is http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/46984/? I personally like OCO better, but it can never hurt to have more options. :)

MGSO (by the why on earth is it officially called "Morrowind Overhaul - Sounds and Graphics" when written out, but MGSO for short? I've also seen MSGO used, but on the http://www.ornitocopter.net/morrowind-overhaul/ and http://www.ornitocopter.net/mo_wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page they call it MGSO) is certainly alright but not very up to date, and they did not get permission to use some of the best and most popular mods in it. So you may want to take a look at http://download.fliggerty.com/download-127-874, which is my personal favorite, as well as http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43110/? Head Pack for the Khajiits. More recently, http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/searchresults/?src_order=1&src_sort=0&src_view=1&src_tab=1&src_language=0&src_auth=mackom&src_showadvlt=1&page=1&pUp=1 have become quite popular. I personally can't stand them because I find them lifeless and somewhat creepy, but many people seem to like them, so it would be unfair not to mention them, and they were certainly made with a lot of skill and effort.

If you are going to use MGSO (you can still install the other heads on top of it if you like), you will also want to improve the bodies in addition to the faces. Of course, there is still http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/42395/? (as well as http://mw.modhistory.com/download-21-14097 to go with it), but now there are also http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43138/?, although I haven't tried them myself, yet (the author, http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/searchresults/?src_order=1&src_sort=0&src_view=1&src_tab=1&src_language=0&src_auth=moranar&src_showadvlt=1&page=1&pUp=1, has also made a number of armor mods for better bodies you should take a look at).

That should get you startet for the moment. For everything beyond that, you should probably go to the Morrowind section and create a new topic there.

I like potato heads so I don't use OCO or Enhanced Genetics. COBL TNR Races is enough of an enhancement to vanilla faces for me, but if you are looking for an overhaul to faces that removes the potato face look, OCO and EGO are the two most popular from what I can tell.

Regarding MGSO 3.0, it is outdated and has quite a few bugs. Instructions for updating it and links to bug fixes are in this http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1541166-morrowind-overhaul-sounds-graphics-30-thread-7/.

I second Westly's Pluginless Head Replacer, but there is also his Master Head Pack, which is required for Morrowind Comes Alive 6.x to 7.x (MCA).

http://mw.modhistory.com/search-au-Westly is Westly's mod collection on MMH and http://download.fliggerty.com/search-au-Westly is his mods on GHF-DL.
