Dawnstar thane

Post » Tue Jan 22, 2013 2:39 pm

Possible spoilers...

So I am trying to be thane but I think I hit a bug. I fixed the nightmare problem, I got a book and now I am going after a ring. That should be the three things I need to do right? I have tried to talk to the jarl and I do not believe the quest activated. I looked online and couldn't really find any useful info. How do I know if the quest became bugged.

You need to:
- complete he Waking Nightmare quest (which you did)
- do a bounty quest given by the steward (most likely killing a giant)
- AND do three things for people of Dawnstar (you did two; you can also help out the ship captain or mine some ore and sell it).

The nightmare quest is Daedric, and doesn't count toward the three side quests you need. Try talking to the captain of the ship docked in Dawnstar - he gives a quest that should give you your third.

Maybe this should be moved. Anyway:

Spoiler
Waking Nightmare is a prerquisite for the Jarl to discuss you becoming a Thane, it doesn't count towards the "help my people"-quests.

If Skald is still Jarl he would have asked you to kill agiant after Waking Nightmare, but before he asks you to help his people. If you did the Civil War in favor of the Empire, the new Jarl probably should ask you to help her people directly (since you've helped her become Jarl).

The book (for the smith, right?) and Frieda's ring counts, as well as getting void salts for the captain on the ship, or mine ore in one of the two mines and sell to the mine owners. It's possible there is something more, but if you've already done two of those quests, I would just mine some ore and sell, and that would do the trick.

Give a drink to the local drunk, mine some ore and do some other random radiant quest.. They all count towards
"helping".

Really? IIRC before you do Waking Nightmare he's like "unless you intend to do something about the nightmares, you can leave". And afterwards, he says somekind of thanks. Then you can ask him if there's anything else you can do, and he'll ask you to kill a giant (or something similar). Hmm. Are you sure Waking Nightmare has completed the way it should? Did you choose the Skull or Erandur? (I don't think it should matter, but just in case.)

Or do as I did, invest in a couple of shops and be done with it.

What level are you? The quest Skald should give you as a prerequisite to becoming Thane is leveled. You can't get it until you're level 22 or above.
