[Idea] Deadly nighttime

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 6:48 am

I just thought of an idea that would make a cool mod. I was running around deep in the forest and the sun was setting and I thought "I better get back to town." But then I realized why would I need to? It doesn't get more dangerous at night and there's nothing to fear. Bandits should love roaming around at night and there should be an increased number of them along the roads when the sun goes down. There should also be more deadly animals that are trying to hunt at night. I just want something to make it seem like I'm taking a big risk by going out and exploring during the night. Any thoughts on this? Or would this even be possible to mod in?

If not through traditional means, it should be doable through SKSE. But I'm pretty sure the CK will be able to increase spawns by night just fine, at least I'm guessing. That'd be cool, though.

Excellent idea, and I'd like to see it implemented too.

If you played the Gothic RPGS, night time was when the Shadow Beasts came out (they'd sleep in their lairs during the day)
but you learned to stay away from them because they were OP and could one-shot you.

Also in "Two Worlds" the ghosts of the creatures and NPCs you killed came out at night and you had to have a weapon enchanted with Spirit Damage in order to harm them.

Stuff like that would be awesome, I just want to actually be afraid of the night time wilderness

Undead should wander further from their tombs at night, otherwise you almost never see Dragur or skeletons unless you need to go into or right near a tomb.

That would be good because it would go along with Hadvar/Ralof saying they were afraid of druagrs creepin down the mountain when they were kids.

I've never seen any rogue werewolves anywhere (SIlver-Hand prisons doesn't count).

This would be great. Risen had this to an extent. Certain creatures were sleeping at night and many times I walked into them by accident and almost got killed! Totally startled me. So, in short, having creatures also sleep at night and be able to be woken by your PC, would be just as awesome.

Yeah that would be great. In particular, I always feel that the swamps south of Solitude would be very ripe for some night-only undead (wispmothers, perhaps?).
Definitely agree on the rogue werewolf idea as well.

I still fondly remember Quest for Glory IV, which had the best day/night monster cycle I've seen; and if you were low level and the sun was setting you wanted to get inside NOW. Very effectively creepy.

It really is. Turns out the only werewolf slaying we can do is if we attacked the companion or that one in Hircine's quest. Not cool, I need some werewolf enemies to have epic fights with.

I've seen very powerful vampires at night who like to ambush me and kill my horse.

Remember it must have the following mandatory popup:

"What a horrible night to have a curse."

... but only when negative effects are currently at play on the character. ;)

Edit: But if you include endless hordes of zombies and flying demon eyeballs, I will have to reach through the intarwebs and slap you...

Would this be easy to implement? I would think it would be a pretty easy mod to create

Things that hide in the shadows and jump out at you on the road. I've only been stealth killed once in this game it would be fun to get ghosted at night.

I would love to see it extra foggy at night/morning so that its a little more scary when I get jumped by bandits/forsworn/random beasts. lol

But yes, more danger at night along with more darkness would be perfect.

This would be awesome, throughout my 72hours of play I've only been ambushed once and it's definately among my top ten moments in the game.

I also agree. and to go with it, as Kitsune Shoujo suggested, darker nights would be nice as well...dont even have a need for Magelight/Candlelight...ever.

There is actually a mod on the nexus that makes the game lighting more realistically dark, I use candlelight all the time on my character because of it. I strongly recommend the mod

Definately agree we need some things that go bump in the night, i'd like to see a few of the rogue werewolves (never seen em outside a prison cell) perhaps even stumble upon a fight between the beloved werewolf and a team of vampires perhaps even a group of night hunters who prefer larger game (Werewolves and vamps) man the possibilities, could lead into a 3 sided faction relation quest perhaps. I know i might be getting a little carried away but wouldn't it be sweet to choose a side and get rewarded by certain curses the 3 factions may carry, eg werewolf form, nocturnal instincts (effects like night eye or track life) and vamp form. I got a million ideas but regarding this but i really dont want to fill up the whole page lol.

So I definitely want to see rogue werewolves. I've seen some vampires in the day that were really tough (had to basically sneak attack him over and over to kill him, and he could ~2 shot me).

So right now we have in terms of ideas for more baddies:

  • Vampires
  • Werewolves
  • Undead (Draugr/Skeletons)
  • Bandits
  • Assassins? (to sneak attack you)

Any other types of things I missed here?

As soon as the CK is out I'd like to make a mod I've been wanting to make since Oblivion, where any time you get a bounty or piss off a character enough, they can stick a bounty up for you on a bounty board, and it'll get fulfilled by a set of assassin NPCs tailored to be hard for players. Lower level assassins would come alone, but if you're higher level or get a high enough bounty, you could have teams come after you (scaling up from 1 to 10 or so, though I'd make that configurable). Perhaps special boss assassins could be made to only attack at night, like vampire assassins or such.
