detailed builds

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 9:38 am

The detailed builds thread on the front page is up to 218 posts now and will probably get locked by the time I finish posting, so I'm sticking mine in to a new thread:

Here's my build:
race: Breton
gender: undecided (will be male if the marriage system sounds interesting at release date, female otherwise)
49 perks:
destruction(9): novice, apprentice, adept, expert, master, augmented shock 1, augmented frost 1, +2 of {rune master, dual cast, augment lvl 2, impact}
enchanting(8): enchanter 1-5, insightful, corpus, extra effect
alteration(5): novice, apprentice, magic resistance 1-3
restoration(5): novice, regeneration, recovery 1, respite, avoid death
illusion(4): novice, animage, kindred mage, quiet casting
conjuration(5): novice, summoner 1, atromancy, elemental potency, twin souls
smithing(6): steel 1, elven 1-2, advanced 1, glass 1-2
light armor(6): agile defender 1-2, custom fit, unhindered, wind walker, deft movement

I was a bit ambiguous in there once or twice where I'm not sure what the prereqs are or which of a few choices I'll go for.

Anyway, the build is intended to work like this:
Offense: Destruction spells (2 elements) augmented by summoned atronachs
Defense vs weapons: light armor with smithing and enchantments + alteration & restoration spells
Defense vs spells: Breton racial ability + alteration perks + alteration & restoration spells + enchantments
Health management: restoration spells and eventually the avoid death perk
Stamina management: should not need much as an almost pure mage, but wind walker just in case
Magicka management: restoration perks, and the destruction casting costs reduced by mastery perks
Stealth: illusion magic
Social: illusion magic
Lock opening: alteration magic

This is based upon the assumption that light armor inhibits magicka regen less than heavy armor. Otherwise I'll probably ditch the light armor and smithing perks, switch them over to alteration and alchemy perks.

Didn't feel like reformatting this so I just copied and pasted from the document I made for myself. The numbers after most of the perks are the skill requirement needed. Most of my perks are for out of combat utility. I love lockpicking and speechcraft. :D
Also, stealth will be last. I dont really need it... it's just the next thing i'll put points in once everything else is done.

Destruction: 10 Perks
Novice: 0 – Apprentice: 25 – Adept: 50 – Expert: 75 – Master: 100
Dual Casting: 20 – Impact: 40
Augmented Shock: 30 x 2 Ranks – Disintegrate: 70

Restoration: 9 Perks
Novice: 0 – Apprentice: 25 – Adept: 50 – Expert: 75 – Master: 100
Recovery: 30 x 2 Ranks
Regeneration: 20 – Necromage: 70

Speech: 13 Perks
Haggling: x 5 Ranks
Allure: 30 – Merchant: 50 – Investor: 70 – Fence: 90 – Master Trader: 100
Bribery: 30 – Persuasian: 50 – Intimidation: 70

Lockpicking: 11 Perks
Novice: 0 – Apprentice: 25 – Adept: 50 – Expert: 75 – Master: 100
Quick Hands: 40 – Wax Key: 50
Golden Touch: 60 – Treasure Hunter: 70
Locksmith: 80 – Unbreakable: 100

Pickpocket: 3 Perks
Lightfingers: x 1 Rank – Night Thief: 30 – Extra Pockets: 50

Stealth: x 5 Ranks

Already made one for a thread exactly like this. so I'll shorten it with this;

Race: Imperial/Redguard

Perks:

Destruction- Maxed (except for the perk that makes people run away when you sizzle them with fire)
Light Armour- Maxed
One-handed- Maxed
Smithing- Maxed

That equates to 49 or 50 I can't remember.

Im thinking of going a pure thief build. Maxing pickpocketing/sneak/lockpicking. Possibly some speech. Then speccing alchemy/archery/one-handed and light armor later. Wonder if it will be viable or if I'll just be screwed in battle.

Jonathan28, that looks like a pretty darn good spell sword build. My question is why Heavy over Light? Your mana regen is gonna take a big hit once you're in top tier armors.

Cheers, spent some time coming uo with it.

On why I chose Heavy Armour it was mostly because of the bigger protection but als because of the perk I chose in the Restoration tree, Recovery, which has two ranks. First rank magicka recovers 25% faster, second rank 50%. This basically balances out the negative effects of Heavy armour, though another way of looking at it is that wearing Light Armour with the recovery bonus would make me a more dangerours spellcaster, because instead of for example, having magicka regen at 25% with heavy armour, it could be 75% with light armour.

Though what do you think, should I switch to light armour?

Race: Orismer (Berserker Rage power)
Gender: Male
Class: Mercenary
Perks:

One-handed:

Armsman (5), Fighting Stance, Dual Flurry (2), Dual Savagery, Critical Charge = 10

//I'm using the one-handed skill/perks for the sake of dual-wielding (axes) for (most) fights smaller than Giants/mammoths/Dragons.

Two-handed:

Barbarian (5), Champion's Stance, Devastating Blow, Great Critical Charge, Sweep, Warmaster = 10

//I'm using the two-handed skill/perks for the sake of wielding a two-handed weapon (axe) for Giants/mammoths/Dragon fights. Also for the "Sweep" skill for crowd control when surrounded, and the "Warmaster" skill to paralyze (crowd control) bigger enemies while I fight the fodder.

Light Armor:

Agile Defender (5), Custom Fit, Unhindered, Matching Set, Wind Walker, Deft Movement = 10 (MAXED)

//I just think the light armor skill/perks work better with a dual-wielder/two-handed weapon user.

Smithing:

Steel Smithing, Elven Smithing, Advance Armors, Glass Smithing, Dragon Armor = 6

//Using the smithing skill so I can craft (light) armor (i.e. Glass) for myself, and, eventually, craft light Dragon Armor (because you can). I also can craft myself some decent weaponry.

Speech:

Haggling (5), Allure, Bribery, Merchant, Persuasion, Investor, Intimidation, Fence, Master Trader = 13 (MAXED)

//I mostly took the speech skill for roleplaying purposes. My character is a Mercenary, and as a Mercenary, my character likes riches. Speech allows the player to make more money when bartering. And! Maybe allows to persuade/intimidate people for higher payment for quests. (I also like speech because it can open up new dialogue).

I might actually switch from Heavy to light armour now, just for the speed and capability to carry extra loot.

I see as a fellow SpellSword build you are using light armour, I might as well change it then, since it seems the most logical.

The build I'm leaning towards at the moment,

Name: Azariah Craulnober
Race: Altmer
Gender: Female
Class: Mage

Alteration [11]

Novice Alteration
Apprentice Alteration
Adept Alteration
Expert Alteration
Master Alteration
Alteration Dual Casting
Mage Armour (3)
Stability
Atronach

Conjuration [6]

Novice Conjuration
Apprentice Conjuration
Adept Conjuration
Expert Conjuration
Master Conjuration
Conjuration Dual Casting

Destruction [11]

Novice Destruction
Apprentice Destruction
Adept Destruction
Expert Destruction
Master Destruction
Destruction Dual Casting
Impact
Augmented Flames (1)
Augmented Frost (1)
Augmented Shock (1)
Rune Master

Illusion [9]

Novice Illusion
Apprentice Illusion
Adept Illusion
Expert Illusion
Master Illusion
Illusion Dual Casting
Animage
Kindred Mage
Master of the Mind

Restoration [12]

Novice Restoration
Apprentice Restoration
Adept Restoration
Expert Restoration
Master Restoration
Restoration Dual-Casting
Regeneration
Necromage
Ward Absorb
Recovery (2)
Avoid Death

Total: 49

A pretty good Generalist Mage in my opinion, but I may move some perks around when I see the spell list and confirmation on how Illusion spells scale. If Animage/Kindred Mage don't allow me to cast Frenzy/Fear etc on most normal enemies then I'll drop them and Master of the Mind in favour of maxing the elemental damage augmentation perks.

You know what, I'm having doubts about whether I should go down the Heavy or Light Armour route, I've sorted out skills and perks for both possibilites, but I won't make a decision until the game comes out

Version 8.0

Jonathan28 the only reason that I am going with light armor is preference. I think heavy armor looks a lot cooler but I just never cared. And since I'm dual wielding I can't block so 150% attack all the way

copypasta from the other thread:

Playing without magic at all.

Rough guide, I guess. Block's there assuming that the perks I mention works with one-handed blocking without a shield. If it doesn't then I'll share those four perks among sneak and alchemy s: or shall I forgo Block altogether? halp pls

Spoiler
One-handed:
Armsman - 5
Bladesman - 3
Fighting Stance
Critical Charge
Savage Strike
= 11

Archery:
Maxed minus the last one(assuming Steady Hand has two ranks)
= 15

Smithing:
Steel
Elven
Advanced
Glass
Dragon
=5

Light Armour:
Agile Defender - 5
Custom Fit
Unhindered
Wind Walker
=7

Alchemy:
Alchemist - 2
Physician
=3

Sneak:
Stealth - 3
Backstab - 1
Deadly Aim - 1
=3

Block:
Shield Wall - 3
Quick Reflexes - 1
=4

Oh. Also, I'm playing as a Breton 'cause Imperial racial abilities svck... and the irony of no magic for a magical-based race (I guess) seemed cool to me.

Male Breton

General perks:

1-Handed: 8+
Armsman x5
One of the specialized weapon types x3
Other perks as I find free space

Enchant: 8
Enchanter x5
Insightful Enchanter
Corprus Enchanter
Extra Effect

Restoration: 3
Novice
Restoration x2

Destruction: 9
Dual Casting
Novice
Apprentice
Adept
Expert
Master
Augmented shock x2 (or other effect if I like it better)
Impact

Those are my general perks. You'll notice they're mostly offensive. I have two ideas for defense and my gear. These perks are in addition to the ones above.

Build 1: Physical

Smithing: 7
Steel
Dwarven
Orcish
Daedric
Dragon
Ebony
Arcane

Block: 9
Shield wall x5
Deflect arrows
Elemental protection
Quick reflexes
Shield charge

Heavy armor: 5
Juggernaut x5 -or- Juggernaut x4 and Well Fitted

That was the physical build. Will rely on smithing and improving my own weapons and armor. Lots of shield usage. The next is magic based.

Build 2: Magical

Conjuration: 7
Novice
Mystic binding
Dual casting
Apprentice
Adept
Expert -or- Soul Stealer
Master -or- Oblivion binding

Alteration: 14
All of the perks.

This really depends on how good casting in full armor is, and how effective bound items are.
