Double Enchanted Items

Post » Thu Dec 06, 2012 4:24 am

I just finished the quest 'Coming of Age' last night as I went to Ironbind Barrow to discover the source of power. I picked up the Steel Battleaxe of Fiery Souls and, after almost messing my pants, asked myself this question- 'So do I need to now destroy this item to learn the enchant?'

FYI- I just hooked up HDMI for HDTV last night and experience the game in a whole new fashion! I'm kind of behind the times with technology. :)

My question is this- I'm working to 100 skill level in enchant and hope to get the double enchant perk. Do I NEED to destroy this item in hopes that I learn this double enchant, or when I reach 100 in enchant will I be able to make similar items without first 'learning' them??

Your help is much appreciated!

Cheers!

If I remember well Fiery Soul enchantment is soul trap + fire damage. So if you disenchant this item, after you get dual enchantment you can use it and add another enchantment = 3 enchantments on a weapon. I used it times ago.

The only way you can learn an enchantment is to destroy an item already enchanted with it. Skill level and perks do not change this. So, yes, if you want to learn the Fiery Soul enchantment to put it on other weapons of your choice, you will need to destroy that battleaxe. IIRC it's the only item in the game with that enchantment so there's no other option (barring a console command if you're on PC, assuming it's possible to "learn" new enchantments that way).

It is a really nice enchantment, though, as Chimpy indicates it's really a single enchantment with two effects - so once you have the Dual Effects perks you can put Fiery Soul on a weapon plus another enchantment of your choice and get a weapon with three different effects on it.

Ironbind Barrow is one of the first places I visit to get that double-enchanted item. I disenchant it immediately and then enchant all kinds of things as I find better and better weapons. My favorite weapons are the Axe of Fiery Hell I create...an ebony war axe...and the Bow of Fiery Hell, an ebony bow...and all the bows and axes I make until I find ebony. My current character is an alchemist/enchantress and I'm looking forward to getting that double-enchanting perk too so I can see what I can do with it. :tes:
