First-person Camera Clipping

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 8:12 pm

After deciding to try out the "FOV" console command, as I didn't want to play the game at the default FOV settings, I noticed that it sort of moves the camera back a bit, regardless of what variable you input. The result, is this;

So, the problem is, these settings are saved to my characters save files, and I've grown quite attached to this furry little bastard.
Restarting with a new character does fix it, but I'd rather not do that.

Any known way to just get this back the way it was before ever typing in the "fov" command?

Try setting fov to 60. I don't know what the default is. That cleared it up for me.

60 svcks though. It really does. :(

The default seems to be around 70 or so.

The odd thing is, though, even just typing "fov" in the console on a new game will make the camera clip with the arms, even though it actually doesn't change the FOV value.

Eh. I'm starting to wish I had never found that .ini tweak thread.

Another bump.
Has anyone been able to fix this after typing in the FOV command?

Alright, so, I just had this issue arise on a new character, without typing in any console commands or editing the INI at all.

Again, I ask; Anyone know a way to fix this? I might just be being picky, but it really ruins my enjoyment of the game.

I just posted a thread on the same issue :/

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1270727-fovarmor-issues/

I also changed my FoV fairly early on after reading about it on the forums, wasn't aware of what was causing it until now.

One of the first things I tried after noticing this was to start over with a new character without changing any FOV values. That seemed to get rid of the problem, but it's manifested itself on my brother's computer as well, without typing in any console commands or changing the INI. The only thing I can think of that would have resulted in the change is loading up my character (The one who's arms clip) on his game briefly.

I don't know. I'm just hoping for some INI setting or something to move the FOV for the first person arms back, without changing the rest of it.

I'll have a poke around in the INI file when I get on my computer later today.

Try messing around with this setting in Skyrim.ini
fNear1stPersonDistance=5.0000
I'm not sure what it does, but maybe it can fix your problem.
I found it after doing "saveini" in the console (which activated a lot of stuff and made my main screen and loading screen textures red for some reason) if you plan to do that backup your Skyrim.ini

Edit: Upon testing it does indeed seem to affect the clipping (I'm not sure of the side effects) Here's some screens with the setting at 25 and 1.

Edit 2: Those screens were at 100 FOV (for testing)

Tried putting that in my display section, doesn't seem to have made a very big difference and may have even made it a bit worse (when set to 5 at least). Any clue of what the default is and/or what would be appropriate at FoV 85?

edit: Found this, may be helpful:

edit2: Messed around with things quite a bit, still can't seem to get it back to normal at any settings.

The default (at least when I used saveini) was 5.
I just used the "sixchange" command and it seems that the clipping is a male character problem =\

I tried it (which changed me into a female bosmer) and it was even worse :/

moarxx PMed me about this thread, figured I'd reply:

When you jack up the FOV over what the game normally sets it at, and the devs made the view models tailored to a lower FOV, you're going to have this problem. Basically just something you have to live with unless someone mods in better view models.

But I guess you guys might have already figured that out.

The problem is, even when we lower the FOV back to the default the clipping stays.
