Hi,

This is my first post so apologies in advance if this is in the wrong place.

I was wondering if anyone knew where to find Arniel Gane in the College of Winterhold?

I am currently the Arch-Mage and Arniel is no longer in Saarthal. I remeber him helping in closing the first rupture in Winterhold.
He did not die during that quest as I used the healing hands spell on him becuase he was close to death.
This was done before the latest patch.

No when I go back to the College of Winterhold and I can't find him anywhere to start the quest where I can conjure his wraith at the end of it.
I have looked in the courtyard, Hall of Attainment, Hall of Countenance, Arch-Mage quarters and the Hall of Elements and even the whole of the Midden.

The wiki suggests to look in the first room on the right on the second floor of Hall of Attainment, I have been there and waited serveral days and he does not appear?
Also the bed in that room can be slept in and does not say owned like some of the other mages i.e. Enthir etc! Does this mean Arniel is dead and his quest lines are no longer available?

The only thing I can think of is the Dragon that spawned over the College killed him in the courtyard but I am not sure of this.

Can anyone help? Is it the patch that has caused this problem?

You know sometimes those NPC tend to disappear for some time. After I brought him the energized stone he required I also had to pay several visits to the College before he turned up. I think a certain amount of time shall pass before he shows up and sends you on the mission to find Keening. When you give him the stone he says something about doing some experiments and that takes time. You try again. I can't remember which was his room in the College but it was definitely on the upper floor but I am not sure it was the 1st one next to the stairs.
Keep trying, if he's alive he'll show up. If he's killed you should be able to find his body. In my game - once while Winterhold was attacked by a dragon Ranmir got killed and his body still lays on the stairs leading to the inn even though this happened long ago.

You can usually find him in one of the two towers. He is hard to find though because he usually sits on a chair and the rooms are little alcoves so you have too look around the corner into each and every one of them.
In the apprentices tower I most often see him upstairs with Enthir.
In the professors tower he might be in one of the upstairs or downstairs alcoves or in the stairwell.

Just to make it extra difficult, I think he sometimes wanders down to the inn in Winterhold.

I agree, usually he is sitting in one of the chairs or walking to/from the Inn in Winterhold.

I have looked high and low for this NPC and can't find him to start Arniel's Endeavour quest, I have read that he disappears for a while during this quest but since I can't actually start it I'm unsure what to do next!

I don't think I have seen his dead body around winterhold, just a load of ash piles ie will keep on looking!

Been all around and too and from the inn in winterhold and the college for several game days.

I have progressed the main quest and also a few daedric artifact quests going back the college/inn after each quest and still no apperarnce of Arniel.

I have found on the web a reference to the 360 version of Skyrim which says "Many of the mages at the college can die during dragon attacks, stopping you from gaining them as allies or doing their side quests".

That said in my frustration I decided to attack Enthir but could not kill him outright, he just yielded and then his heath returned to 100% the minute he stood up!

From this and that the bed in his quarters is now not owned I can only assume that he was killed in someway, probably one of the college dragon attacks. Even though I cannot find his body in the courtyard or its shrubbery.

Can anyone confirm this to be the case in the PS3 version? also can anyone confirm that you cannot sleep in his bed when he is alive?

I have tried reverting back to a previous save but unfortunatley I only kept three saves because of the issues with the game and don't have a save that goes back before the Containment quest and the dragon attacks.
