How to get Serana to follow you again?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 10:21 pm

I told Serana to leave me, and now I can't get her to follow me again. Is there anyway I can get her to follow me again.

Have you tried re-loading a save before you dismissed her??
That may be your only fix.
I almost lost her too, when she told me she would meet me in Darkfall cave. I thought wait a min, thats not right, and chased her down. I have kept her with me ever since.

There are some other posts on your topic, hope it helped.

Followers will return to their homes if you leave them for long enough.
With Serana I have found that that means she just turns up aside you after a while.

I have had the same bug, but when I rested for a week at the College (my home base) there she was, all ready to continue the adventure.

Hope this helps :)

I guess I could save a game then try that. I just don't want to 'assume' this will work, then fine I will have to redo whatever I need to.

I have posted elsewhere that I can have two followers when using Serana, and that makes me think there is more to this, and the typical wait, or dismiss will not work. A dismiss should allow you to ask them to follow you right away, and that does not happen, all I get is NPC type dialog from her.

I'll report what I find.

When did you dismiss Serana? There's this information on the http://support.gamesas.com

Q: ‘Beyond Death’ to ‘Touching the Sky’: Serana no longer has the option to follow your character.

A: If you tell Serana to wait between these two quests, you will not be able to tell her to follow you again. At the completion of 'Touching the Sky', her option to follow you will be reenabled. She will still appear at quest locations as she is needed. To fix this issue, either load a save before ‘Beyond Death’ and tell her to follow, or wait until after ‘Touching the Sky’ is complete.

Actually it goes further than the support indicates.

Serana was fine after completing the Dawnguard MQ - I went and loaded the save after it was done, told her to wait, and was able to get her to follow me... That comes well after the indicated problem spot. I also tried a more recent save, and was still successful in getting her to wait... So basically, at this point, I am not sure where she got 'broken'.

If I have the time & inclination, I may load up old saves to see whereabouts she glitches for me.

Since i like having the option to use Serana as needed, I am trying to find out what glitches her after the MQ.

So.... Ioaded up once more from the end of the MQ at the boat on Volkihar Isle. The first time i tried it I fast traveled to Whiterun, and found her glitched.

This time, I have been avoiding fast travel, and so far, she has been OK. I even tied enlisting Farkas, as speaking to him turned up the kill a dragon quest. Though it says your follower is replaced, Serana stuck with us, and continued to be "wait able" without losing her forever. After the dragon was dispatched, she remained A-OK.

I still haven't fast traveled, though I have used the carriage system.

Unless it is a fast travel issue, it may be a truly random glitch. I am going to keep playing along with the recent reload, and save often, and try issuing wait commands frequently to see if something triggers the glitch that I can pin down.

Just curious is anyone else has any ideas on "how" or under what circumstances she gets glitched.

I'm resurrecting this...I have the same problem.

Simply:

Tell Serana to 'wait' or to 'part ways' at some point after the main quest, and you lose dialogue options to get her to rejoin you. There's no discernible time or place for it to happen...it just does.

I never dismissed her in the MQ. What I had done was get her cured right after leaving Castle Volkihar after defeating Harkon.

When I did my reload, I kept he as a vamp for a good long time (and was able to keep Aela along with her).

I think an old save may save her.... I also svae often and would test the wait issue now and then. If it glitches, i wouldn't have much to make up!

Good luck. She is fine now, btw, but I lost the two follower benefit!

If i want Serana to follow me even when i have a follower already, i enter Castle Volkihar Undercroft and presto she's there... it's a glitch to have two followers

Oh! So if I dismissed her, hired Erik, entered the undercroft and then left it I'd have both Serena and Erik? +_+

I think after the Dawnguard questline, I dismissed her. I revisited the Soul Cairn again, and she turned up next to me without consent and followed me around. After leaving the Soul Cairn, I dismissed her again, and since then the option never came up to be my follower. I think that's it.

As soon as you enter the Undercroft, she's standing right next to you as a follower... even when you already have one.

I have Cicero & Serana ;)
