How My Items Can Be Stolen?

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 6:23 am

Okay I don't like at all that if I store my equipments to my companion's house or I give thoe items to my companion's to carry and those things are valuable enough and I want to take it back to upcrade more/sell I see that then thay become as stolen!? WTF?! I haven't give these items to them for keep them selves eternally! I have given those items just becouse I can't carry those all things my self!

I think this should be fixed or other way I don't see any use of those thieves! They already steal some of my kills those bas%#&*s!

Lelveling your character is bad enough. I can get on 10 more of stamina/leveling what means iI can carry 2 firewood more !?! WHF those gaves and other places are so much loot that with that capacity it takes week to carry those loot's to sell ! And it would be nice if I can chose sometimes health too when leveling my Character!

Yes I know that I can buy a house for keep my things as my own but that cost and that's why I need to carry as much loot as I can and it would be nice if my mates woould be helping it, not stealing my items. And even if I would have that house those things needs to carry there some how anyway!

This matter is really one thing that Bethesda should think second time!

If Bethesda folks gets visitors and those visitors needs help with carrying their belongging and they will help, does the Bethesda folks then think that those belonggings what they carry is theirs now!?!? I don't think so.

So far I only experienced this with the recruit for the DB. I gave her a daedric dagger and then the next time I wanted her to follow me she didn't have it anymore. This also goes with armor I gave her. I hope they fix this soon because she is one of my favourite followers.

In my case my companion still has all those items but if I ask them back there is "stolen" text right up corner of item details. So I can't sell those with "good" price even I have done/upcraded those items.

I already need to store my items to barrels what are outside in rivervind becouse I don't have any other place where to storage it. Even those Hog and his Wife has sayed that I can be like home. If I can't keep my belongings there without afraing that I can't have them back svck big time.

Chests that do not belong to you have a chance to reset. There in by loosing items stored inside. Hell evwn the text on the loading screens tell you that you might loose items.

Now as for the followers ibe run into a similar issue. So far only "fix"is to take the item back and give again :S Really hope at some point we have an "equip" function for em

Thanks I will try and given them back to Lydia and take it back to see what happens.

I noticed this happening with items as well they were not stolen only from dead enemies. This seems to have started after the 1.2 patch.

I take item from Lydia and is appears stolen in my inventory. I drop it in a barrel and is shows as red.
Just to test it, I drop item in front of Lydia and then pick it up, she says "I will overlook that for now" I guess she does not like theft either :-)

UPDATE: taking Item and giving it back to Lydia and then taking it back does not help. If you again drop it, she also says "I saw you do that"
When items are scanned in her inventory they shows as normal. In my inventory they show as Stolen in Black. Inside a barrel they sometimes shows as normal and other times as red

I haven't seen that loadin message yet. I have seen many others though. Anyway it's not still fun. =P

What ain't fun either is that when going to Bleak Falls Barrow it would be nice if I can carry all loots with one trip but I can't do that alone but if I use NPC to carry items too thay took all worthy enough to them selves so if I want to take those from them they are as stolen then.

So I have to do it my self and it starts to make the game booring to run same views again and again... =P

OK I think it is clear now, if Lydia is wearing the item and you take it away from her it gets flagged as stolen from that point forward. if you give her a more powerful item she will equip that and then maybe it would be safe to remove the unequipped items.
Will need to test that.

Yesterday I was at Bleak Falls Barrow and one warrior woman NPC from Whiterun was with me. I made she carry all loots from Bleak Falls Barrow and when I thought to upgrade and sell all the weapons/armors what we took mfrom Bleak Falls Barrow I saw taht example almost if wasent all those ancient nord weapons and many other items was as Stolen when I took it from her.

I don't see any use of those thieves are stolen every worthy thing! I can kill those my self at Bleak Falls Barrow. If I have made/upgraded good/better items to NPC already to use I think it's quite good fee for their services I think. If not ask some money but don't steal best loots and left al cr4p to me. =P

I try hard to get enough money so I can buy a house (even I have read that those are bugged also) so I can store my belongings to some where safely. I can't just waist 2 (real life) days to chop firewoods to get 5000+ gold for house and decorations. And if I have understood right I have to do some jobs before I can buy that house from Whiterun. That may mean more loot and where the heck I store that all !?!?

I like to upgrade all weapon/armor loot before I sell them and thats why I need storage room.

One of the first few times I used Lydia, I had this happen to two items I took from her, one a sword she was using, because I gave her a better one. Kinda annoying since I couldn't sell those items(Still don't have a perk to sell stolen items). Ever since I haven't 'trusted' her with anything she may equip if I want to go sell it. But fortunately it was just the one time for me. Perhaps it was done at a time where the game didn't 'think' she was my follower, maybe bumping into her making her say 'Oh' she briefly is not an ally for the 'assault', but dialog with her right then allows you to trade with her.

When I got my dwarven smithing perk, I was able to take her complete set she had equipped to upgrade and give back without it being flagged as stolen. I believe shortly after the only time it happened to me I did the companion quest where Aela replaces your follower, so perhaps parting ways with a follower then getting them again would reset this if it is happening.

I don't have the stolen item issue but I can give her (and take) any inventory including weapons, potions, etc. However, I cannot upgrade her armor with anything better. Whenever I hover over any armor in her inventory the option to equip it disappears.

I recommend trying a vocation for money making. Alchemy becomes quite lucrative once you've discovered enough recipes and start to get a hang of which ones get more money. Smithing is both valuable for what you can make/upgrade and because you can eventually turn relatively cheap ore into expensive items (a glass bow that has been improved, for example, results in good profit while requiring few resources). Enchanting can add a few bucks to the value of an item but is usually not cost effective until you've disenchanted (destroyed) enough items to have valueable enchantments and good soul gems.

These are all things that don't require a companion at all and could gain 5k gold for you in little time along with giving you the ability to make yourself useful things (like fortify carry weight).

If that's not your cup of tea, then consider not using companions for a bit. I generally solo everything (I don't enjoy dealing with companions or worrying that they're about to die). Conjuration may suit your playing style a bit more otherwise.

Example:
If I have made Iron Dagger at the Forge and then I use Grindstone to upgrade it to Superior or greater than that and I give it to Sven (or Faendal) and then I take it back there is "Stolen" text at item info box.
If it's just Iron Dagger or "Fine" Iron Dagger what I'm giving them, I can take it back without that "Stolen" text. Those Ancient Nord weapons has "Stolen" text even I haven't upgraded those.

Tryed even with one NPC at Whiterun who came with me to Bleak Falls Barrow and over 90% of items had "Stolen" text when I took it from her.

I started new game becouse this today and now on I don't take any NPC characters with me if It's not must.

I hate them all. Only thives all of them! Even if thay pretend to be warriors. =P

Only thing is that Alchemy is too hard for me just becouse that doen't have same kind creation list like smithing has so I need to test endless compinations to find what happens from different incredients and I wan't to start to play this game already but first I wan't to have good starting base. HQ where I can store my equipments, rest etc.

Are you glitching the load by having her pick up more than she is capable of?

Finding the Steed Stone will let you carry an extra 100 pounds of loot , and will also make any armor you wear weightless . Take a carriage to Solitude , the stone is on the mountain to the north west of here , not the one with the Thalmor embassy , but the one a little farther west . If you follow the main road past the Thalmor Embassy , you should find Wolfskull Cave a little ways west , the stone is due north of here .

Well "yes" if we count it as glitch becouse I can carry endless ammount of items too. Only differences here is that I have to put those items to chest example nad them I have to ask NPC to loot it and other thing is hat NPC can still move faster than me when loaded "too much".

Maybe I have to do this then. I have found one cave near Riverwood where is all smithing possibilities except melting ore. Only thing is that it's quite far away fro every other places beyond Riverwood and I can't cook there or do any alchemy what I could do at Riverwood.

Well life can't be easy. =P

If you put items in chest and have your follower loot them out or take them off the ground and it's over the weight limit, certain things will show up as stolen. That's been my experience anyway. Anything I give them directly never goes stolen. Only stuff after they are fully loaded.

Consider using an online list of ingredients and their four possible effects. It is a fast money maker for sure and that's what you need for a home base.

Eating an ingredient also gives you the first effect automatically. As you begin to combine ingredients that are supposed to do one thing, you sometimes find others. If you do a lot of three ingredient combinations early on you'll find more faster.

Yeah I have tasted always those what I have more than one. =)

Let's hope that there ain't any too toxic!

EDIT: I tested to throw "stolen" item to the round and asked to Sven pick up it and then I took it from him and that look like the way that I can have my items back without "stolen" label on it. =) Why I have to do everything so hard in this game. =P
