This is rather frustrating. I've been to Reachwater Rock and found out that I need the Ivory Dragon Claw from Folgunthur. After getting there, I looked everywhere and couldn't find it, so I checked a guide which says that the claw is on Daynas Valen's corpse, along with some notes to start a side quest. The problem is, they're not on him. I know I haven't already looted him, I've only just reached the place, but neither of the items are on him. I've reloaded and tried again, and each time he's just had random loot.

I don't suspect there'll be a workaround but it'd be nice to see this patched, otherwise I'm shut out of two dungeons that I can't loot

So, this "Forbidden Legends" quest which I read is supposed to take you to Folgunthur - I just found a Lost Legends book and the quest didn't start, either.

Maybe looking out side, near the dungeon entrance. There's a camp, diary of Daynas Valen's should be there, on a table(?). Find that first...

Just grabbed the diary and read/took it, but nothing happened. Went inside and the claw still isn't on him.

I quit playing after this pretty major glitch, but I've just come back after the recent patches to try again. Still no luck.

I decided to try starting the Forbidden Legends quest by any way possible via a walkthrough. I went back to Saarthal to check Jyrik's body for the fragment which should start the quest, not there.

I went to the library in Dragonreach and found, read and took the Lost Legends book. No quest.

The most annoying thing is that I need the Ivory Dragon Claw for not one but two dungeons, so short of starting another game just to get that one item for the dungeons, I can never 100% complete the game, which was my original goal.

when you grab the diary outside it should advance you to the next part of the quest "Learn the Truth from Daynas Valen", after that the quest marker points inside to Daynas body. once you get to Daynas body the Ebony Claw, and "Daynas Valen's Notes" should be on his body. What quest stage has it gotten to for you on Forbidden legends?

While Daynas Valen's Journal is definitely a quest-related item, reading it before reading Lost Legends will cause the quest stages to stumble upon each other. First, it will render Lost Legends useless. Reading Lost Legends will then render all three copies of the Writ of Sealing and the Ancient Edict useless. If you read them in a different order, the quest will initiate but not update. If you stumble upon this bug, the only solution is to find Daynas Valen in Folgunthur and read his Notes. The quest will then start and proceed from quest stage 30.
