Max Von Sydow familiarity poll

He was The Tracker/Doc in What Dreams May Come. Easily my all-time favorite, above every other movie including ones in other genres, best movie ever!

I never remember actor names unless they are of the ridiculously famous type, but it turns out I have seen a few films of his.

I've definitely seen him act before, but I didn't know his name or recognize him as the narrator in Skyrim's announcement trailer.

I'm Swedish and I didn't even know who he was until I looked him up in google. Then, I recognized his appearance.

Nope - had no idea who is it before imdbing him. Now that I have I recognise him from The Tudors, Shutter Island and Robin Hood. Wouldn't have known him by name only though.

I guess I should say a few things about him. Without going into too much detail.

He's the narrator for the teaser trailer, as well as a character in the game (and I think we know his characters name, but I'm not sure, the mentor figure, Esbern maybe?)

Otherwise his career has been what they call a "typecast" actor, meaning that, at least in more mainstream films, he usually plays minor characters who are pretty similar in some ways. In his case his character is often an elderly mentor type figure (as we're seeing here, again, in Skyrim) and he may either remain as the kind old mentor, or often his character turns out to be the traitor in the end.

As you play the game and if you ever happen to come across his movies, I'm sure his voice will start to sink into your mind, its one of the recognizable ones like James Earl Jones and the like.

Otherwise I guess there's not much to say. If you want a list of his movies, IMDB him

His voice sounds good, that's what matters. I don't care about actor names much.

I don't like him. As a Swedish myself I'm bothered by his Swedish accent and that ruins immersion for me. And his voice is not even close to being as memorable or pleasant as say Patrick Stewart, Liam Neeson, Anthony Hopkins or Morgan Freeman.

He looked familiar but I couldn't place him until I looked up his Imdb. He certainly has a wonderful voice though. I'm very happy they got him. :celebration:

Max is voicing Esbern, who is a surviving member of the Blades and serves as some kind of mentor figure.

He's never stood out in films all that much (not for lack of acting skill - I'm just not one to follow "celebrities", or much of a film-goer), but I've known his name for a long time, and his voice is amazing.

Seen him in Flash Gordon, Dune, Robin Hood, Shutter Island etc. My point is, I knew it was him the moment I heard his voice in the trailer!

I knew immediately that he was doing the voice over. I've seen a number of his films and his supporting roles in U.S. and British productions. The man has gravitas and fits perfectly with what the teaser was trying to convey.

I first saw him in "Three days of the Condor" and thought he was really good in that role, definitely gave me a chill.

edit: This poll really needs another option between the first and the second.

Honestly have no idea who he is. But the low, guttural way he rolls his voice during "therrre's one they fearrrr" made me think of Tony the Tiger. So he's fine in my book.
