do merchants and shops sell ebony ingot?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 1:34 pm

I recently got level 100 smithing and and proceeded to make a combination of dragon plate and dragon scale armor and a daedric sword. I want to make a set of daedric armor, to go with the sword. I have more than enough daedra hearts, but im completely out of ebony. I know the khajiit caravan that shows up around Dawnstar usually has one in stock, but that wont do me any good. If anyone knows where else the ingots are sold, it would help. and i heard that your level affects finding them laying around, so if it helps, im level 22.

there is a mine near Riften, the little village of Shor's stone, that has a mine with ebony and once you do the small quest to clear out the mine you get 1k gold and there are about e extra ebony ore laying around the smelter that you can take for free. As for venders that sell it I think it is level based and even though you smithing is maxed you level may be to low for it to show up on venders so mining it may be your only real option at this point.

I believe the shop in Solitude sells them, if I recall correctly.

It's randomly generated I believe, though I'm unsure whether it's related to level.

I just bought 3 in Whiterun, from the woman by the entrance. I was level 32.

Ebony and gold ingots laying around in Mehrunes Dagon's shrine. But you need to do the Mehrunes razor quests.

I have never seen Ebony ore for sale, only ingots. Wiki says ore appears in random falmer loot at level 13.
You can mine all the ore you want. Some veins at top of throat of the world and some orc mines. (Gloombound mine in particular)
Ingots appear at blacksmiths at level 27.

All merchants that sell ingots will eventually sell Ebony ingots too. While you level up further, they will become easier to find. On my level 50 character every shop usually holds 5 or so.

Your best bet is finding the Ore and using a Smelter to make your own ingots. The type of ingots a smith stocks seem to be based on character level.
Blackreach has a few Ebony viens, there are two at the throat of the World, there is always Gloombound Mine and Shor's Stone. The UESP has lists of locations where you can find Ebony ingots and Ores.

All blacksmiths and general stores sell Ebony Ingots. But you have to be a high enough level first. Just like they won't sell you ebony weapons until your level is high enough.

There are places to mine it though.

Deifnitely make sure to check the general stores as well as the blacksmiths; sometimes they have a higher stock. And don't forget smaller towns like Riverwood that have blacksmiths as well.

I buy ebony ingots from balimuund, mostly, though they're literally scattered in every dungeon. Sometimes Aventino carries em in Whiterun.

Balimund in Riften is my favorite blacksmith. I buy 13-15 Ebony ingots at a time from him, I'm level 58 so they are plentiful. Gloombound mine is a great place to get Ebony if you're not high enough level to buy from merchants

Most blacksmiths should stock 3-7 at your level, the three in Whiterun should have a few.

Having that armor and those weapons at level 22 will be unbearably boring though, you will be to strong. If you enjoy it then great, just thought I'd say how much I regretted it on my first character. Now I only take the steel and arcane smithing perks, then improve what I find.

Gloombound Mine is your best bet - I had a full set of Legendary Ebony Armor on my 1st character by LVL 22. You only have to do a short quest for the Orcs at Narzulbur stronghold to gain access. Also, if you have no issues with stealing there are usu several ingots laying around the Narzulbur blacksmith area.

Edit: As for being over-powered at LVL 22: I may have been relatively safe from melee, but mage-types still F-ed me up until I got enchants on my armor. :o

I've done the quest on both my characters, but will the Dremora not spawn at the Shrine if you don't do the quest?

Yep, I even found 11 at once in Riften, but I am at a really high level so don't count on it before 50.
I don't think there are any for sell at lvl 22 though you might wanna go scavenging for ores.

They become available in steady supply at level 30 at your shopkeepers.

The Orc stronghold south of Windhelm has a mine full of Ebony.

The Dremora won't spawn, and since you need to get the key from them, you can't get into the shrine.

Don't forget to try the smiths at the Imperial and Stormcloak camps, they can have a good stock for sale.

There is a mine in one of the Orc holds (Narzulbur) that is filled with ebony veins. You will also find a bunch of ebony ore just laying around inside and outside the mine in buckets and carts. It's marked as owned though, so you'll have to make sure no one sees you take it. There is also a smelter right outside the mine that you can use to turn all the ore into ingots. By the time you mine every last bit of the ore and pick all the ones laying around the place up and turn it into ingots, you should have enough to make a full set of armor, a shield, and a weapon and still have enough left over to improve all your armor pieces and weapons as well.

Another thing to keep in mind- against all logic, ore veins respawn every 45 days.
