[REQ] Mod to remove ALL quest markers (Town, caves, quests,

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 6:46 am

Title says it all, I want to get back the excitement I felt in Morrowind when I stumbled on a cave while exploring blindly, I don't want my escapades governed by the compass, because want it or not I still follow a marker that designate a cave, I want to see it and I don't want to miss it.

If the marker isn't there I won't even know I missed it if I do, so I won't care ! And if I find it it'll be a great surprise.

I already tried playing in the .ini and it did nothing, even the quest markers didn't go away.

EDIT : I just realized I typed '' ALL quest markers '', it should only be '' All markers ''.

Yeah that makes more sense now. :P

It's probably not what you want, but there's a console code from Oblivion that might work. Open your console and type tmm . That toggles all of them off. No promises that it still works for Skyrim, though.

If it does work, keep in mind that there are two huge flaws with this method.
1- it also removes the markers from your map, not just the compass, effectively rendering your map completely useless for anything. Fast travel will be impossible.
2- If at some point you reactivate the markers, it turns them all on, not just the locations you've visited. Every location can be fast traveled to, whether you've been there or not. Huge temptation to cheat.

So if you do this and completely bung up your map, don't say I didn't warn you.

Oooh, thanks a lot ! Exactly what I wanted, and it even removes enemies, awesome.

I wonder if it'd be possible to make a mod that only removes undiscovered locations, I'd love that :)

Yeah. I like them, but only when something is in my line of sight. I remember a mod that let me do that in Oblivion, where it shortened the distance so that it didn't pop up until I was close enough to see it (only reason I left it at all was so that I knew where I'd need to stand to get it marked on my map).

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=912 :)

Dunno if it works yet as I'm not at home but it lets you remove anything you like from the compass.

http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=391 I've been waiting for this since day one. Going to install that right away. Thanks a lot, now I can finally properly explore the world instead of constantly being told about all points of interests in a mile radius.

I turned off the compass and the floating quest markers in the ini, and left the quest markers per se active.

This way I can still use the map to see quest-locations and my orientation.
Haven't yet missed the compass / lifeform detector / POI-scanner.

Ditto.

Having no HUD (apart from when in combat) is wonderfully immersive and highly recommended.

How do I turn all of this off? I'd love to have only the quest markers when I need them, but I want to turn off the map locations.

Personally I only want to turn off the unvisited locations on the compass and this works perfectly. Will be a good alternative until a full-blown UI mod comes out where I can modify all UI elements to my liking (up to a certain degree at least).

It's an ini file change. Go to My Documents folder, find the My Games folder - in that will be the Skyrim folder that contains game saves and ini files. Open up the SkyrimPrefs file with notepad and scroll down to [Interface]. Add the line (or modify if it already exists) "bShowCompass=0" - without the quote marks. Close and click yes to save changes. Compass is now gone.

Yes, I love having no compass.

I disagree that removing map markers would render the map useless. If anything, I am finding that filling my map up with over-sized markers is making my map increasingly hard to read. And ugly to boot.

Thank you, I shall do that.
