Mods to make game darker?

Post » Thu Jan 26, 2017 8:51 pm

Sorry, I know someone told me before one of these mods, but I cant get the "search" to work on this forum!

I might want it even to go as dark as in these screenshots:...

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/44241/?

(btw, it states in the forum for that mod that someone said it "NEEDS CLEANING" does that mean if I use that mod, I need to do something first?)

Notice how dark it is there.

Also look at screenshots on this mod:

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43192/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fmorrowind%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D43192&pUp=1

I like the darkness there too.

In my game everything is way brighter. The pastebin guide did claim to make it darker with some adjustments to the morrowind.ini but obviously it is not enough! I want to feel scared at night!

You probably want The Lighting Mod or True Light and Darkness. I haven't used the latter, but I do use the former.

I use True Lights and Darkness. It's pretty good, I recommend http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/39605/?.

General information about why some mods need cleaning: https://moddinginmorrowind.wordpress.com/2012/07/23/modding-tutorials-cleaning-mods/

This mod has the "evil GMSTs" problem.

How to do it with TES3cmd (probably the best way): http://wiki.theassimilationlab.com/mmw/TES3cmd#Clean_plugins

The multipatch that is explained a little lower on the same page an also be helpful, especially for merging leveled lists (important if you use multiple plugins that add items or creatures to the game's leveled lists, i.e. the lists from which random loot and encounters are generated).

Here are some more advanced variants of the tes3cmd cleaning bat files: http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5734

I am using the one in the last post of this thread.

I just downloaded True Lights and Darkness, and tried it, but it didn't seem to make it much darker. Also, the light sources seem really wonky. Like it is going from bright to dark to bright to dark quickly. Like the flames are flickering but in huge degrees. If I imagined the fire if only looking at lights, I would imagine the flame going almost out, then to quickly go to high flame, then back quickly to almost out, ect ect. Doesn't look natural

also I did do the .ini edit recommended in the readme. Although the pastebin guide already had me change some parts of the ini

thanks t!

I made a youtube video of the mod, and would like opinions as to if it looks like something is wrong?

To me the lights are going in and out far too much, and it is like they are all fighting with each other.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRKYN88en0w&feature=youtu.be

Vivec is the most noticable, in the lower waistworks. (that is at the very end of video)

Also I wish they hadnt changed all the candles to give out different colors...

update: removed True Light and Darknes and now downloaded The Lighting Mod 1.0, modular. I put in all modules minus the sneaking ones, and the one regarding ownership of outside lanterns.

1. It mentioned in the readme "Spuzzum's Interior Daylight" which apparently adds daylight to interiors with windows during the day, but I do not know if I should use it or not because I can find veryl ittle feedback about it. Does anyone else use such a mod?

2. Another thing is they have an application which changes the morrowind.ini file's weather settings. Problem is the pastebin guide already had me change the weather settings, see here:

I am worried that the .ini changes from the exutable will screw up the those Sky mods in the pastebin guide (at line 240)

http://pastebin.com/7gF2VLaf

Here are conflicts between them all.

List goes like this:

PASTEBIN SETTINGS

3. I am assuming the changes of lighting will not work in the Tomb of the Snow Prince mod, that is, the entire Solstheim area. Is there any way to change this ? Also I worry that the modular that gives torches to miners might cause problems as miners exist in solstheim? (the readme did not mention how far he actually got in solstheim, or if the torches extend to that location)

Does your game look like this? when I have "The Lighting Mod" it is even brighter than vanilla, and the lights flicker like crazy, especially see Vivec at the end of the video.

If it is different, can you copy paste your morrowind.ini [LightAttenuation] settings?

Simply having the brightness slider about a third of the way from the left will give you that brightness OP. My game looks identicle to that and that's all I do. Laptop brightness setting is also on lowest.

Set them from MGEgui. There is a reset button. Also, if you disable and reenable Per-pixel lighting option, it will reset the values to recommended.

Also I am working on lighting shaders.

Here is the new atten formula:

float4 att = max(0,(1.0 / (lightFalloffQuadratic[group] * dist2 * 25 + 0.99) - 0.01));

Just change that line in your XE fixedfuncemu.fx file with the above one. This will fix all lighting seams.

Here is a preview.

It will be dark and dramatic, you are warned. :)

I think I am very lucky to start playing Morrowind at the time that such a man as you is doing this work!

I will try this very soon!

Btw, do you have any ideas about the pulsing/flickering lights? Are they perhaps an engine thing, which cannot be changed? (as shown in post 9 and 10, especially at the very end in Vivec) Do you experience these pulses yourseelf?

The pulsing is an engine feature. It is set in the game editor.

Most lights are set to pulse slow. Maybe the mod is changing them to faster version. It looks cool to me.

Also you are not lucky, you just provide right amount of feedback and criticism. You were the one who complained about distant land not looking good?

Look what you made me do:

i mean, which of my posts does your game look like??? which of the links, because I now have...

1. a link to the mod regarding "Knight of the Imprial Dragon" which happened to have awesome dark interior I am jealous of,

2. a link to True Skyrimized Torches which also has awesome screenshots which I am jealous of

3. a video I made with the True Light and Darkness mod

4. a video I made with The Lighting Mod

:P

do you mean your game looks like number 1 and 2?

I will try your brightness setting changes, because I didn't even know Morrowind had such settings!

you are telling me this looks cool!?!?

It looks like to me Vivec is possessed by demonic forces!

oh... and yes I was the one complaining about distant land lol. and your edits really fixed all my problems :P I am about to load up the game with your new fix...!

as to your screenshot, to me it is like a man in the sky, not his domain, he is not worthy to see or know what it is like so high! Or, to say it this way, to see a naked women in a window while on a wakl! Or to say it this way, It is like I am looking at an Elder Scroll, and fear going blind! (really, it is just I am afraid by seeing such images I will remember I am playing a game and lose my ability to immerse myself :P

I have a question, what are lighting seams? :P

Will I need Per Pixel Lighting to see the benefits of this edit? (I cant use that, I already only get near 20 fps)

Also, how do I go to that page where it has those options regarding pulses of lights? EDIT:

omg if I wanted to make them all go back to slow, or all go back to off, would that mean I have to edit every single light in the game?!?!

When you see meshes lit abruptly, creating a line where one side is lit, but the other side is not.

Per Pixel Lighting is a huge improvement. Don't even use DL if you get that bad FPS but get PPL.

I am sure tes3cmd can edit things en masse.

I don't recommend using gamma slider. Set it to middle.

Use this shader instead:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Morrowind/comments/4kb5op/gamma_slider_does_nothing_internet_is_of_no_help/d3dmjok/

Also mouse sensitivity is right there under controls.

Like boxes of light and darkness?

also, my distant land is only at 3 :x I think its from the pastebin guide. For me, I can live with that fps, but i think choosing between 3 distant land, and per pixel lighting, would be hard for me to choose

When you load that shader in MGE gui shader editor, it lets you inspect it in preview mode. You can set saturation and gamma with that shader.

I never used tes3cmd either, but I hope those who can help with an example.

this is how bad it is.
