Bethesda: PS3 version of Skyrim “getting a ton of attention”

August 31st, 2011 Posted in News, PS3
Posted By: Valay Bethesda Game Studios hasn’t really said a whole lot about the PlayStation 3 version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. PS3 owners should have nothing to fear, though.

When asked if the graphics in the PS3 version of Skyrim would be similar to the Xbox 360 game, Bethesda’s Pete Hines said, “Yes, PS3 and 360 have reached a good place of parity….framerate, fidelity, etc. The PS3 version is getting a ton of attention”.

Hines also commented on the demo videos that has been shown thus far. When the same fan expressed some concern about not seeing footage from the PlayStation 3 version, Hines said, “We don’t ever specify what platform screens or footage comes from. It’s usually a mix.”

Yeah, if you say so Pete. Except its now come out that no footage of the PS3 was ever shown before release, no-one was even given a copy to review and that PS3 owners should have been worrying very much indeed.

How many lies can this guy spout about one game?

lets just wait and see if the patch fixes the issue, if it doesnt after that guy stating "improved performance for long-term play on PS3"

but the term IMPROVED performance, doesnt exactly mean completely fixed, but hopefully it will sort the issue out

It's just a video game, calm down! Besides, it's Pete Hines' job to market the game. He's pretty damn good at that. If you want to be mad at someone, you'd have to be upset with management for not spending a little bit more time on the PS3 version to work out the kinks. It's not like the programmers walk in from day-to-day and decide what they want to work on. It just needs a patch. Welcome to software development. Even consoles cannot escape this fact. It happens every single time, forever, and will never stop happening. Accept it.

I know it's his job. If it were my job to lie to people I would quit.

He simply relays the information that he's given from the different development branches. He's not even directly involved in the development of the game. If you believe a marketing guy, it's your own fault for being so naive. You need a little skepticism to have a healthy, objective view of life anyway. Pete is just doing his job, and relaying the information he gets from the development team. Lol, I know, I know.... You need someone to blame, so that you can vent your frustration. However, you should just stop venting and wait for the patch.

Stop venting? You're right. Let me go pick 60 dollars from my money tree in the backyard.

Mabie it is a quick fix which will calm people down and let people play while they work on an actual "fix".

There's 2 groups who tested this game before release, most likely a group of QA (quality assurance) testers working for Bethesda as well as Sony.

Yes indeed, A copy of this game was sent to Sony before release and it was then Sony's job to vigorously playtest it and decide it was truly ready to be released on their console.

The real Issue here is that both groups. Bethesda or contract QA Testers/Sony contract QA Testers have very limited time to playtest on each version and every time they get an updated alpha/beta version with a few bug fixes they have to start a brand new game from scratch and regress the previous bugs to make sure they were fixed or not.

Unfortunately for us, the players, this quasi-game breaking bug only seems to occur after 15-20 hours of solid gameplay once the save file reaches a certain proportion.
As a former QA tester myself I can definitely see why this type of long term play bug was missed by both Sony and Bethesda's QA teams.

Still, I'm happy to be able to play the game in its current state than have them had pushed back the release date on PS3 alone for 2 months or something, It could be worse.

Even though the cell-processing unit in the PS3 is more powerful than the Xbox' , the game is still superior on the Xbox.

Getting lazy, Bethesda?

Yeah I'm so glad that I bought a broken game that I can play for a few days before it gets unplayable. Im so glad that they didn't delay this game for a few months to fix this issue so people could actually play it.

This thread is ridiculous. Locking it.

Have information or an issue - learn to state it usefully, constructively. There are plenty of complaint threads on this forum, including for the PS3, that are civil. Thi sone, not so much.
