Music you would like to hear

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:27 am

This song needs to be played the first time you enter the Strip.

Or, each time, I don't care. Sure, it's not a 50's song, but can you think of a better song to introduce you to the Strip? The lyrics fit so well.

I thought about that as well. Still I think that song would be alot better for when you enter New Reno for the first time. The strip looks to be under control and not a jungle at all.

[censored] PUSSIES

I like hip hop but I WOULD NOT WANT TO HEAR IT IN THIS GAME

THIS MUSIC U POST WON'T FIT THE GAME ANYWAYS

the devs won't listen to you I bet

So Lock this topic plz

...Okay so it might break the atmosphere for YOU. But did you ever stop to think that maybe the 50's music breaks the atmosphere for others? It sure as hell doesn't do anything bad when I play Metallica or GnR while in the wastes. If anything it improves the atmosphere.

After all only a colosal idiot takes music they don't like along to entertain oneself out in the middle of nowhere.

This song needs to be played the first time you enter the Strip.

Really, you guys? Asking for rock music ruins the whole atmosphere. If you really do want your songs in there, just ask for a custom radio station that plays songs straight off the hard drive.

Anyway, I've got a few suggestions, they may already have been suggested, I dunno:

Living In The Sunlight (original) - Maurice Chevalier, 1930: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMZL5OYKT8U
Puttin' On The Ritz - Irving Berlin, 1926: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OdFPT_sCuAg with a notable cover by Fred Astaire in 1946: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFabjc6mFk4
Sh-Boom Sh-Boom (Life Could Be A Dream) - The Crew Cuts, 1954: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqWqFLzGLi8
Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes - Perry Como, 1952: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dmkg_E2evbg
Lucky Numbers - The Nicholas Brothers, 1936: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifk9paFSyuk
Dear Hearts And Gentle People - (I know this song was in the Fallout 3 trailer, but it wasn't included in the soundtrack, and it is such a good tune for shooting holes in things.) Bob Crosby, 1949: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXNOz-HkoOM

Blues/Soul (Little Willie John, Fats Domino, Billie Holiday, Billy Ward etc.)
Jazz/Standards (Bing Crosby, Matt Monro, Mel Torme, Eartha Kitt, Ella Fitzgerald, etc.)
Big Band (Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Tiny Bradshaw, etc.)
Early Pop/Rock, Doo Wap (Platters, Drifters, Penguins, Bill Haley, Chordettes, Chantels, etc.)

I agree that there needs to be way more music too, though I love that explanation of Three Dog only owning one record. Makes me actually not get too bothered by the small selection of tracks, and adds an extra dimension to his character. Though I love the idea of being able to find old records in the wasteland to bring to a radio host/operator. Great incentive to explore and to listen to the radio!

Just because it ruins it for you doesn't mean it ruins it for someone else.

Why is that even being discussed? Firstly, it will NOT happen. Period. The 30s/40s/50s music is a major defining aspect of the period that identifies Fallout's setting and atmosphere, so whether or not you personally like it, or whether or not you personally prefer to play to some other type of music, the fact is that the game WILL NOT contain music unless it comes from that period. If you want music from another genre or time, put it on your HDD and stream that. In the meantime, why don't we discuss ideas for songs that DO fit the genre and time period? Any other discussion is irrelevant.

On a personal note, I don't think any kind of music would "ruin" the atmosphere/ambience for me, but I would have a hard time immersing myself in the game's unique style and setting without a soundtrack full of iconic songs from that era.

Agreed. While I made this thread for any input, I really should of put era specific in the title.

You honestly believe the devs are going to go back and put in a whole new radio station because of a few random people on the forums? The game's been finished for three weeks now, they're onto the bugfixing, anything we do now is nothing but discussion amongst ourselves.

Blues like Muddy Waters
R&B like Little Richard
Rock 'n' Roll like Chuck Berry
Crooners like the Rat Pack (both 50's and 60's)
Jazz encompassing the various 40's and 50's subtypes like Bebop or Modal
Rockabilly like Elvis
Doo Wop like "Why Do Fools Fall in Love," "Do You Love Me," "Yakity Yak," "Earth Angel," etc

Sure some of this dips a bit in the 60's but most of these songs retain that 50's flavor imo

I don't care what music they put in New Vegas, as long as I am not gambling to the beat of Tenpenny Tower Music Mix, I am fine.

I need something that can get my game on.

Hrm...Let's see...some examples of music I will be listening to as I bumble about the Mojave...

Stone Temple Pilots - Plush
Metallica - Wherever I May Roam
Metallica - The Day that Never Comes
Disturbed - Indestructible
Disturbed - Land of Confusion*
Slipknot - Dead Memories
Apocalyptica - I'm not Jesus
Alice in Chains - Rooster
Chevelle - Jars
Guns 'n Roses - Civil War

See where I'm going with this? lol

And no, I don't think that sort of music 'breaks' the atmosphere. If anything it adds to it.

* Oh, uhh, go have a listen. This song sums up the entire Fallout universe pretty nicely. Now if you don't mind I'm going to go headbang.

Why would you want that stuff, part of the charm is hearing music you dont know of. You can hear any of that stuff on the radio any day of the week. broaden your horizons.

I totally agree, people just don't have open minds anymore. I love a ridiculous amount of genres and styles of music where most only listen to one. It's sad that more people don't like as much. :sadvaultboy:

The Bioshock songs are not taken from anywhere, but composed by the, uhm, guy that composed music for Bioshock, actually.

Haha. I find it hilarious that such a filthy song got past the censors back in the day. But I love it.

And my radio station doesn't have only 15 tracks. It has over 100, and Three Dog only interrupts every 5 songs. Well, he did, until I shot him in the head. Margaret is so awesome.

I too am baffled that GNR only had 15 songs. I mean, Bethesda knew a single game could last over 100+ hours. 15 songs is just one CD or album worth of music. Though as I type that, it just occurs to me that maybe Three Dog only owns the one record, and just plays that thing religiously. Someone suggested a long time ago on the Fallout 3 forums that it would have been a fun idea to have old records scattered throughout the Capital Wasteland that you could find and bring back to Three Dog to expand his playlist.

I can't imagine that royalties on many of the songs Bethesda included in the game were that expensive. I mean, the GTA titles certainly must pay out loads more cash for their giant playlists of popular songs. Maybe with Fallout 3 being Game of the Year and doing so well, and New Vegas pre-emptively being declared Game of the Year, Obsidian has managed to secure some more funding for getting larger playlists. With 4 radio stations, if they each have 30 song playlists, that would be awesome, but even if they all just had 15 song lists, I would be happy. The Enclave radio in FO3 was really just talk radio, with only a handful of songs, some only lasting for 30 seconds. Agatha's station was nice, but I'm not discerning enough to tell where one violin song ended and another began.

Rock is definitely lore friendly if its from the 50s, possibly some stuff from the early 60s. A rock station would be great, but I can definitely see where licensing might be an issue. I hope Obsidian or Bethesda sprung for the cost of at least one Elvis song though. They certainly went all out hiring celebrity voice actors this go round. I might even have a little trouble telling which NPC will die quickly due their voice actor's recording fee this time!

I do not believe Bethesda anticipated that GNR would be so successful. They didn't know if everybody would enjoy listening to 40's-50's music. So they played it safe with like 15 or so songs.

I believe that now, knowing how popular GNR was with the fans, the music stations will have many more songs.

"(I Got Spurs That) Jingle Jangle Jingle", is just one big innuendo about a promiscuous cowboy. Why do you think his spurs are jingling in the first place? (Because cowboys didnt take their boots off during six). Why will there be no wedding bells for today? (because the cowboy wants to screw all the girls he lists without the strings attached). Older music was a lot better at innuendos and suggestive lyrics than they are today.
