New Bethesda.net launcher design

Post » Sat Nov 26, 2016 10:39 pm

Does anybody like the new launcher design?

For me it goes against anything, that was typical for TES games. So I wonder - why they do it? Is this a new course - should we expect something like that in the future Bethesda games?

Not sure what the design you're talking about looks like. But Bethesda isn't just TES. BGS the developer has both TES and Fallout (and whatever they're going to be doing next), gamesas the publisher has many more games on top of that, including Dishonored, Doom, Prey, and whatever else. It's not uncommon for a AAA game to have a launcher reflective of recent or upcoming releases.

I haven't seen it. I have no intention of ever using it unless I am forced to.

Basically everyone is using multi-game launchers these days, and for relatively good reason. Being able to access a wider range of games with ease, instead of having to use the Start Menu or Shortcuts, its pretty handy. Plus, it gives a platform for news updates, system information and patch notes. Frankly, i'm surprised it's taken them this long to implement one.

As far as the launchers go, Bethesda's is actually pretty good. I'd probably put it up there with Blizzard's and Steams, and well ahead of whatever the hell Ubisoft has been doing with U-Play. It's visuals are a little big, which can make some of the text hard to see, but on the whole, it's functional without being utilitarian.

https://bethesda.net/en/dashboard- the section with legends

The pinky person is one of many - the other one is blue/viloet/bright green with couple of characters like taken from some high/comics fantasy games - some of them don't have even the design of legends cards or TES games. You see it if you download and login.

It was changed with the release of Skyrim SE, so I wonder if they made it on purpose to make some types of players angry? Because some players complained, that they don't want to put their old mods on the new webpage because it is really ugly - I didn't know, they have actually such reason...

If this would be for legends only, I would understand that, but this is for all the sections.

Why they would want to hurt the players? This is sad really... On the other hand it does explain many other things.

And I thought, that launcher of Bethesda games/software is connected to Bethesda games/series, but I guess even moderators don't have such impression :P

You posted your thread in the Elder Scrolls Series forum. This topic is not about the Elder Scrolls series.

Updates and accessibility are the main reasons. It's huge to be able to update a game from a launcher or all at the same time. It helps the devs greatly.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but... what the heck is the Bethesda launcher?

It's a program you can download from the other website. I haven't downloaded it, but it is apparently an application for starting all of Bethesda games.

Oh, why can't you just start them from the desktop?

It's more than that. It's like Steam. It allows you to buy and download their games as well as providing update services for said games.

You can, as I do. It's just one of the options it allows.

I usually just use [windows key]+[type first few characters of name of game]+[enter] for non-Steam games. It's faster than anything you can do with a mouse. For Steam games on the desktop I usually do the same, but sometimes launch from the Steam UI. For games on one of my HTPCs, I launch Steam Big Picture Mode using the Steam add-on in Kodi with my controller or remote control. Since you can add non-Steam games to the Steam launcher, I can launch all of my games from one place with my controller or remote control.

I'm not a big fan of having separate launchers for different games. It's nice that Beth has a unified launcher, but I have lots of non-Beth games.

It looks like it was made by Dire wolf digital, who was hired by zenimax, so I guess it is not really connected to Bethesda, but why do I have to use Creation kit through such ugly launcher? The launchers are usually neutral, so all kind of fans could use it.

I do like Skyrim for what it is and now I do feel like forced to have it connected to their launcher, even though the creation kit it protected itself, so it could be downloaded from their webpage - the same way as the mods are?

It really looks like trolling made by Zenimax and their card game developer...

Excuse me? The launcher looks like https://puu.sh/suVnE.jpg. That is pretty damn neutral, the game specific pages have more design but that's it.
