New to modding, any articles to read?

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 12:12 pm

I never attempted a mod for any game I own. I've had some installed and the modders did a good job.
Is there a website where I can get info about how to start and what programs I might need.
I understand that Skyrim was built on the same engine as Oblivion. Does this mean most of the info is the same?

Thanks.

The Creation Kit will most likely be pretty similar to Oblivion's Construction Set. http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Main_Page the Oblivion Construction Set wiki that you can look over.

http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/Main_Page. In many ways, Skyrim's innerds are more like the Fallouts' than Oblivion's.

http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Main_Page has alot of information on modding Oblivion with its CS, which will most likely be very similar to the CK(Except I hope for more features in skyrim's CK)

Even if you dont have Oblivion, I'd recomend getting it, not just for modding practice, but its also one of the best games ever made. It could also help with some lore if you want to get into anything in skyrim that would require knowledge of lore. Theres also Morrowind, which you could probably find at a used store for a few bucks.

And about the CS Wiki, I'd recomend first going through the begginer's guide on the main page, its an amazing tutorial if you've never modded before.

I played Morrowind. Couldn't get anywhere in regards to the combat system.
I played Oblivion and finished the Main Quest, did about 5 to 10% of the side quests. (very little mods installed, most were to make the game look pretty)
If I do any modding in Elder Scrolls it will be in Skyrim. The world looks so much better and I have a couple of ideas. Not large mods, something simple to start out.
Think I'm going to need another monitor, more screen real estate will help if you have multiple windows open. I have dual GTX580's in SLI so no worries there.
