Noobish questions

Omg, i love Skyrim! The progress is slow though, because I enjoy going around and talking to everybody. Anyways, I'm wondering about 3 things:

1. I have got the amulet of Mara on, but how do I approach an npc to get married? I heard the spouse makes some money for the character, and that the npc just earns more money the longer one is married, so i wanted to get married early.

(btw, can one get divorced in Skyrim? :P )

2. I am a member of the Thieves guild, and quite happy with that, but can i join other "guilds" as well, such as the Companions, and the Imperial legion, or will I then get thrown out of thieves guild?

3. What happends if I tell Lydia it's time to go our separate ways? There is two other npc's also suggesting they can follow me around, but they wont as long as I've got Lydia. And are they better? Or is all companions the same?

Regards female pleyer who feels like a noob

You can't get divorced, but you can kill them. It's impossible to remarry though.

You can join as many guilds as you want.

She goes back to your house in Whiterun, or the castle if you don't own a house.
