Results of the patch: (Remember, this is my experience and may differ from yours)

- Overall improved framerate.

- A more stable experience overall.

- Improvement in framerate during fighting and exploring dungeons.

- Less frequent stutter and freezes.

So, is the PS3 version of Skyrim finally equal to the Xbox 360 like we expected it to be (looking at you Pete...)?

NO

Even though the overall experience is improved, this would still not be acceptable to release. The stuttering is there, the lag is there and the framerate still frustrates me. The game is playable, and even though things are improved, I still find myself itching from irritation.

Like I said, the game is playable. Do not get me wrong here. Some of you guys are going to think this is great and never look back. As for me, I am still very disappointed. I played the 360 copy yesterday and the PS3 copy is still nowhere near it in terms of stable play.

I′ll keep playing more to give it a last chance, but as of now, this is not enough.

What is the point of releasing the patch region by region? Let us all have it!

No idea, but I AM severely surprised New Zealand has gotten it before the US, we normally get everything last lol

I think this should be directed at Sony, not Bethesda.

Why make a "part 2" of a thread that got locked? Obviously this will be locked as well. Bethesda knows they screwed up and want these threads to die out.

All I have to say is that I never experienced this pre-patch:

http://f.cl.ly/items/1n3f051z1i372s3W3N0r/photo-1.JPG

That's supposed to be grass... looks more like sand. I can't guarantee it's patch-related obviously, but it's strange that the first time I ever see that problem would be 5 minutes after installing it.

Shadows are a whole lot better. No flickering.

My save file lost around 1mb after not really doing much from loading my pre-update save. Game in general runs a lot better, I used to get some stuttering around candles and fires, and especially if a dragon breathed fire, basically anything with dynamic lighting, my PS3 would start grinding, now however it's improved. Lag is still there but to a much lesser degree. In general, before this update I didn't have so many problems compared to most people, in fact just before I downloaded the update was the first time I really suffered from lag so that it affected my game-play. FYI my save file is just under 9mb, lvl 32 with around 62 hours playtime.

I own Skyrim for the PC but I did convince my friend to buy it for his PS3, which he did. He was waiting for this week's patch to fix the lag before playing it, but if it hasn't done so then I'm going to feel really guilty about persuading him to fork out nearly fifty quid. Surely, even if this patch has not solved the PS3's issues, this is something so serious that Bethesda can't possibly let it go by.

How much game time can my friend expect to put in before the lag sets in? And when this happens, will a simple save and restart fix it? I've been putting up with nearly hourly crashes with my PC version so to me this doesn't sound so bad. If the lag sets in after like fifteen minutes though, that's bad.

I've been playing for nearly 3 hours now, and my game seems okay now, I'm still getting little frame drops but nothing like I had before (before I couldn't even play the game) I'm just hoping this isn't a huge fluke and my game will go back to the way it was because from seeing other people's comments it may just be me getting lucky for once...

I dunno if this is connected to the new patch, but I just died and when I tried to load it just got stuck on the loading screen. It is still doing it now, and I started loading it a few minutes ago.

THX for the patch, frame rate drops are not gone at all (still there but less then before). Since the new patch i get stuck ingame (something I've never had before!!!) ...and STUCK = STUCK !!! (can't save or go into ps3 menu, ...)
By the way the first quest I wanted to continue (taking up arms) just gets STUCK when I talk to Vilkas every time again and again!!! Before I just had some major lag when playing longtime but no stucks... WTB ps4 i guess...

lvl 41
savegame 19 mb

Wow that sounds awful!, although I am really curious about stuff like this, I mean is it just coincidence that it happened after the patch or has the patch really screwed things up for others and fixed some things for some people....it's annoying not knowing these things lol

A quote from the other thread with my response.
The thing is, Bethesda are lazy a**holes.

They ported the game from Xbox, which has 3 cores. They're very similar, so a port works, though it leaves several SPEs unused.

I bet there's like 2 unused SPEs now...
The problem wasn't lasiness. As we see in the PC and the 360, they correctly programmed the code. This means that there was a proper code in those two platforms to refresh and dump memory appropriately.

Something went wrong in the port to the ps3 programming language (not sure what they use, I only have experience in .Net framework). Just because the hardware is similar, does not mean it is the same. It is a different OS altogether. It is a no brainer that the 360 will have an OS that behaves similar to a PC. Either the ps3 platform or the way it handles code complicated the porting of that code. Another explanation would be a small mistake made in the process of converting the code into something the PS3 will accept.

This isn't laziness, this is missing a specific needle that is in a stack of other needles that are otherwise identical.

I wish that Bethesda would actually get this whole thing working and actually play test the whole thing properly before releasing it. For it to be a universal problem for everybody on ps3 then it can only mean that they did not test it. Shops don't work textures are missing a lot of the time the whole thing still has a poor frame rate. I am never buying a new game from bethesda again as they have had the same issues every single time they have released elder scrolls and fallout on the ps3. They just seem to want to do the minimum possible work and probably see us as games testers that are paying them.

You might have a point except for one little fact. This problem has existed with Bethesda's version of the gamebryo engine since FO3. They've known about it for years, have done nothing to address the problem and continue to push out games with the same game-breaking bug on the PS3.

That's either laziness or malevolence. Take your pick.
