My Play through without lag.

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 9:36 pm

Hey guys, I made a new char recently due to the extreme unplayable lag of my 1st char. I somehow managed to play throughout the game and even "clocked" without any lag and here's my method:
- Do not level up unnecessary not needed skills: Follow a specific build, do not level up the things you do not not for your character play, it minimizes the save file.
- Quit the game every few hours: During play quit the game after 4-5 hours of straight playing. Simply just save it and then load again (Takes about 5mins)
- Turn off all auto saves: Every Auto save should be off
- Use HDMI cable: This helped me ALOT
- Save a new file: Every major secondary quest you finish you finish, save it to a new file. Check how big the file save is and if its too big do not do the quest. If it's similar to the previous save file you had ,simply delete the previous file.
- Delete Saves: Delete unnecessary saves you don't need anymore.
- Sell/Store/Drop: Sell/Store/Drop any gears or equipment your not using.
- Minimized quest logs: Minimize how many quests you have active, finish off quests before starting a new one.

Using these methods, I've somehow managed to finish the game lag free and leveled up all the stats I needed to 100. Hope it helps you guys somehow, because it pretty much helped me allot and made Skyrim much, much more enjoyable to play :)

Hmmmm....... the HDMI cable is interesting. How many who are experiencing sever lag are not using an HDMI cable? Would this really make a difference?

FYI - I'm 39 hours in and have not experienced any lag. Using an HDMI cable to my receiver and then an HDMI from receiver to TV.

No way in hell am I going to compromise my Skyrim experience. If they don't fix it, I'll get it on 360. There is no way I am missing out on playing a complete, uninterrupted version of this beautiful masterpiece of a game. I couldn't bear to play it and be limited by the file size- these games are meant to be about the lack of limitations- about freedom.

Yes, HDMI cable helped me personally. I was using the normal PS3 cables and change to HDMI cable. The graphics ran so much quicker.

Edit:

Did you play like this from the start or did you only do it halfway through?
Also how big is your save file? I'm currently 72* hours in and my save file is only 9MB

I've played from the start using a HDMI cable and once my file reached 6mbs I still had the frame rate issues everyone else had.

meh load of rubbish i had horrible lag the first time playing the game as a nord warrior and i kept a single save game file was 4.5MB's

played a second time as khajit theif no lag but quest errors made me peg the controller across the room and vowed not to play again untill the next patch was out

of course that didnt work ive sinced rolled a dark elf mage have about 5 10mb save files and 2 auto save files and the only "bug" ive had was the undying not having a sell option i left the building returned and it was fixed, no lag no texture pop ins nothing best run through ive had and the games great

i havent done any of the recommened "fixes" because simply put "Correlation does not imply causation" sure some people think its the size off the game or a database error or a HDMI cable maybe the auto save feature they dont KNOW

i use a HDMI cable have had lag havent done a damn thing that the self helpers have tried and my games now fine! point is pissing in the dark and getting everything in the bowl has nothing to do with good technique

No, sorry, there is no way that HDMI would make a difference with framerate or lag issues. You nay have a crisper picture, but you're kidding yourself if you think that would fix how the console processes its information.

It might not, but when I changed to HDMI cable personally my game became smoother to play in.

i've thought about dropping the gear, however it seems like that would propose yet another issue.

when selling gear to an npc the gear will disappear completely. seems like that would help more than dropping. this has some logic to it, but the difference between either strat could be neglible.

I've been dropping items alot, I dont't think it does anything. But I guess its good to be safe.

I'm sorry to hear that, but these methods have been working perfectly for me so far.

No thanks.
If I cant play the game how I want (which is what this series is ALL about) I just won't play at all.

I'd agree with you, but waiting a week to play this amazing game is a bit too annoying. So i've used these methods in the mean time.

Yes, well lets not make the HDMI the main factor here. I'm was just indicating the ways the worked for me to hopefully help others.

Yes I'm very glad ^^ I still have to be careful though and take things "slowly and neatly" in-game. Waiting for the patch to start doing everything XD

Good ideas OP but IMO it's [censored] to not try everything out in a sandboxgame like this.
Skyrim is far from having the best battle system and the only real fact that stands out is it's open world structure.
If you take this away, minimize your build on one or two skilltrees only, it's not worth a [censored].

C'mon Bethesda, what is taking you so long? Counting the money you more or less stole from us?!

Do you already have a Xbox 360? If not, instead of buying one you could simply buy a SSD and use that instead. It does cure the frame rate issue.
