Achievements and Steam: no go?

Post » Fri Nov 19, 2010 4:58 am

New Vegas achievements don't work.

Well. there was that issue with the autosaves and quicksaves.

They then disabled Steamcloud, after that applied a patch and fixed it.

They said in their forums that Steamcloud and achievements are 2 separate things, one has nothing to do with the other.

I don't know about that -- people here said the opposite. And I don't know if they re-enabled Steamcloud since then -- the option box here is checked.

All I know is: I keep receiving achievements messages (popping up every now and then), but in the game menu I read that I have unlocked just one: "Ain't that a kick in the head", the very first one.

So, in New Vegas, achievements don't work at all? Or is there a fix or workaround?

One more question: in case it can be fixed, is it possible to sync my game or do something to force the already unlocked achievements to appear?

Thanks.

Wow, this svcks...

Well, they wrote in one of those sticky threads (the devs, I mean) that they are reading everything and have teams writing down every issue and working on them, let's see if that's true or just talk...

Thanks for the answer (both of you that answered).

But anyway, if someone knows otherwise, please share. ;)

They seem to be working for me. Although they are disabled for that playtime if you open the console. (Meaning even if you just press the ` key by accident). Just quit out and relaunch the game to enable achievements again. But then again, I dont care for achievements so if I have to use the console its fine with me if they get locked.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT use the console. This seems to throw Steam out of its routine, or it might be to prevent cheating. At any rate, this is what I learnt yesterday.

Are you sure about that? I've seen other posts saying that's not true and they used the console moments before getting achievements.

I wouldn't know as I play in offline mode so I have not gotten any at all. I just can't see them (Obsidian/Bethesda.) doing it myself.

I experimented and used the console like crazy. Saved, re-launched, loaded old saves, etc., and using the console made no difference at all to gameplay...achievements, yes. Oh, and the bugs were still alive.

I don't care at all about Steam or achievements either. Still, I only use the console minimally--i.e., when a situation stops being fun or is unfair IMO.

Well, I was just using the console for manual saves -- way faster than hitting ESC and selecting the menu.

But anyway, I've been receiving in-game messages, something like "day tripper: you've been using chems like mad", or "kill'em all: killed a couple of enemies", or something. :)

But in the game menu on Steam, before clicking on "play", the achievements don't appear, and I just noticed something else: I played all day yesterday, but there reads "2 hours played".

Something is wrong...

I'm not getting achievements either. I just looked at the achievement list and there are at least 3 that I know I should have unlocked, but I only have the one you get for completing the first quest. I use the console command "toggleemotions" to fix the NPC slowdown which has to be done every time you start the game. I also use the console to make my own quick/temp saves because I still don't trust the auto and quick saves.

Hi,

I also have same problem that achievements won't register on steam. So I did a little test. I made save just before reaching level 20. First time when I had used console to unlock some computers and I didn't get the achievement. However second time when I had restarted steam and the game and loaded the save I just made. I got the steam achievement for reaching level 20. So to conclude I almost 100% positive that using console disables steam achievements from that point onward. Unless you restart (at least) your game.

I have not used my console either, it doesn't work for some reason on my computer. But anyway, most of my achievements have been working so far. Except for, Know when to fold them. I won more than 3 games of Caravan and remember seeing the achievement show on the bottom corner of my screen. But when logged into steam, that one is not showing up. I wonder if this will also effect when I win at least 30 games of Caravan. Would look silly to get that achievement but not the first one!
