G.E.C.K. Missing objects?

Post » Tue Dec 21, 2010 4:59 pm

Hi everyone,
been looking over the forum for the last week now looking for some answers to my questions.. so far a few have been answered but one keeps plagueing me as noone seems to have this issue.

Im building a large vault like structure, using the vault object parts.
It seems like i'm missing a few "normal" vault sections.

An example:
a vault corner with door attachement. So a vault corner leading directly into a door.
The Rusted version is present but i dont see a normal version.

Same goes for several other parts:
- Vault Dining room centerpiece
- Vault utility room, cornerpart
- Some others i cant recall atm.

Arent these objects supposed to be there? Or did the developers decide those parts weren't necessary?

If you need a more clear description of the parts name in the GECK i will post the names later today. Currently at work so don't have access to the GECK.

Regards,
Chrophiss

If you can find a place where these parts appear in the game, then you can find the corresponding part name in geck. If they don't appear in the game, the developers may have been "nice" to include them anyway, but not all possible parts are included. If you really need a particular part in "unruined" form which is present in game only as "ruined", it is possible to edit the nif to achieve this. The only difference between the ruined nif and the unruined nif is the names of the texture files. Copy the original ruined nif file; edit the copy; replace all the texture names. I have done this for the part which connects tunnels to vaults, as shown in the vault with the spore carrier guys. It took maybe 20 minutes to do that one part.

Hi, a month late but here i am.
I'm not sure i understand what you mean... how do i find the model with the textures. and how do i change the texture names?
i tried the following:
1. place the object with wrong textures
2. open object properties --> [Edit Base]
3. then at the model area --> [Edit]
4. then under the "Alternate textures"tab change the base textures. There are alot of textures there but any texture relating to the vault corridors for example arent there. atleast, i cant find them.

Your way sounds different than mine. What did you do?

I don't have geck loaded right here so I do not have the exact names. But, in the object window, under dungeons, you find one directory containing "ruined" vault parts and an adjacent directory containing "non-ruined" vault parts. Usually a non-ruined part will have a name like "WallN1x1" while the ruined part has the name name plus an "R", like "WallN1x1R". Bring up each of these nif files in nifskope and look at the texture paths. (Not in geck, in nifskope.) You will notice that the textures also have the same names, but the directory name and the "R" character will be different. There is only a small set of these texture files, each one is used by many many parts.

Suppose you find that you want one particular part which available in a ruined variant only, with no "non-ruined" variant. Then copy the ruined variant and (in nifskope) replace the ruined textures with the corresponding non-ruined ones.

The game nif files are found in archive files called "bsa" files in your install data directory. Install Fallout Mod Manager, then double click on a bsa file. This will allow you to unpack all the files. What I do is unpack all the bsa files into another directory, inside my documents, and use nifskope on those. Then I copy any new/modified nif files into my mod directory.
