Working with Water...

Post » Thu Dec 23, 2010 9:01 pm

So... I went and created this custom piece of place-able water.

This water I modified, specifically, for use as the coolant in a Nuclear Reactor.

Now, the problem I am having is twofold.

First, I wanted the liquid to be bright purple/blue... which I had -thought- I got done. Turns out, the effect only applies while -under the water-. I want the -surface of the water to be the same color as the submerged area.

Secondly, for the life of me, I can't figure out where the hell to change the amount of radiation you get for -standing- in the water.

All I managed to do was change the amount you take for -drinking- it.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

This is only a guess but did you change the Reflected color of the water? Being that the surface color depends on what is reflected in it, it might be what you need to fix.

You'll need to edit your Effect Item:

Effect: Damage Radiation Level,
Range: Touch.
Duration: you'll have to play with this one to see how much you want if, any,
Magnitude: the amount of radiation you want while in the water.

I think that is what you need, it has ben some time since I played with water should at least get you on the right track.

Haha! That's exactly what I was looking for! I'll go test that out, now.

Just one other thing... I don't suppose you know why, when underwater, everything NOT underwater (as in, when I look up) looks as if I'm staring at the NORMAL maps. It's entirely opaque. I can't see out of the water at all!

>.<

Anyhow, thanks again for the help.

-Cheers, mate!

You may want to use a RadiationMarker object. This is the way most base game radiation is inflicted. When you place a radiation marker, use the "extra" tab to set the radius and intensity of the radiation. You may also want to place a RadiationGreen light to get the glowy effect.

I hate to practice thread necromancy, but I think I figured this one out tonight.

As far as I can tell, you set the amount of radioactivity that standing in the water delivers in the World > Cell menu under the Common data > Water select box. The water type you load there seems to determine the radioactivity of the water you place.

NVCleanWaterGS , for example, gives no radioactivity whatsoever.

Cheers,

Coleen.
