loose files should overwrite original files

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 10:49 pm

obsidian should patch this there are some realy nice texture mods, but everything out there that needs to overwrite something does not work.

the detailed normals mod seems to have added normals to one or two textures, and made the rocks very shiny. but its not prettying up anything that already has normals.

secondly, this awsome feral ghoul thing wont work at all http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/images/38727-1-1292517732.jpg

this is stupid, this DEMANDS A PATCH. it couldent be that hard could it?

Oblivion had this problem, so did Fallout 3. If you're gonna mod the game then it's technically nothing to do with Bethesda. Third party tools work so why worry?

I use FOMM for my archive invalidation. It is a great multipurpose tool presented to us by people that care(d) enough to put their time and effort in to it without the pleasure of getting paid for it. Before you start calling these very useful programs "hacky third party stuff" I'd suggest that you try it out yourself. These tools work and there are thousands of people who can attest to that fact.

No, the game uses by default the game resources. If you want to use modded files (skins fall under this) you have to use the archive invalidation to use them. The easiest way to make this is to use FOMM since it also helps you organising your mods. The only thing which is a little bit "hacky third party stuff" is NVSE but this is incredibly helpful for mod makers.

You wouldn't need archive invalidation if you put things into BSA files! Just sayin'.

But for people like me who edit the hell out of everything, including mod files, then continually throwing things into BSAs is not a practical option.
