If you go East from Doc's home - right by the windmill and water tank (with a trailor in back) there is a house you (seem to be able to ) use. You can sleep in the bed(s) and storage is available.

I thought I would try all of the homes when you first start (I started a new game) and this seems to fit the bill!

I have been using that house since day one. The old man is sometimes sleeping in your bed, but other than that it's perfect and free.

It is just a vacant home. Free - no rent like the motel room etc. It is close to the Doc, saloon, general store etc - seems to be a good place to use.

Another way to find it is to walk forward after leaving the saloon - straight at it.
