Windows Version

Post » Thu Jan 20, 2011 1:21 am

Hi,

I did a search but didn't find anything about this. Is the PC (windows) version of Fallout: New Vegas going to have LIVE achievements associated with it like Fallout 3 did?

Thanks,

No.

All version of New Vegas will use Steam, so Steam achievements will be used.

Steam cloud is nowhere near as bad as GFWL. We get achievements without Live being annoying.

I like Steam as a digital distribution service, but I don't like the idea of being forced to use them for DRM. At least with Fallout 3 you didn't have to use GFWL, and could even disable it from the game.

Steam DRM is less intrusive than SecuROM.

All DRM is intrusive. But the more you can minimize it's intrusiveness the better it is on the customer, and personally I'd rather have Steam over SecuROM. Steam doesn't care if I run Daemon tools, for example. It also doesn't care if I modify the game.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again, the main reason they used Steam is because of DLC distribution. It's common sense.

I don't know if this is the reason they went to Steam, but we did have a lot of problems with the DLC and GFWL on the release days. As far as I know, it went pretty well with Steam, but the DLC was already out there by then. We'll see how it goes with New Vegas.

I don't have a problem with SecuROM as long as it's just a disk check like it is for Fallout 3. I especially like how with Fallout 3 SecuROM is only in the launcher.exe and not in the Fallout3.exe, so you can run the game without the disk.

With Steam, you won't even need the disc.

This has become a Steam Thread and we already have one of those.

Since the OP's question has been answered.....
