I don't believe they've said anything about being able to mod unique weapons but I can't see any reason why they wouldn't let you.

One possible way to view unique weapons is that they are already 'modded' out as far as they can go, also would you want to stick a standard mod attachment of whatever type to your uniquely skinned unique weapon and thus degrade it's looks ?.

I love silencers and would put one on every gun if I could. So yes I would mod a unique weapon.

I, for one, actually hope that you can't mod them. For a while I thought that it would be awesome if you could, but then I started to think about it.

The thing that makes them unique is exactly that, they're unique. If you can slap a scope and a silencer onto a unique hunting rifle like it's a regular one makes it just that, a regular one with slightly better stats.

Now if they make mods on unique weapons special to the weapon (eg. scope and mount on Hail Mary Pistol are engraved) than I would also like to see mod-able uniques.

A lot of it hinges on whether or not unique weapons LOOK unique.

I can understand not wanting to ruin the look of a unique weapon like the Virgin Mary Pistol but it's doubtful that every unique weapon is going to have a unique look so why not be able to mod them in order to keep them from falling behind non-unique but well modded weapons.

IIRC I remember reading an interview with Chris Avellone
He was asked if you could add modifications to unique weapons
He replied "No, they are awesome enough already."

I'd suggest that you review your knowledge. Yes, the technically correct term is suppressor, but if you have paid attention, when they were created, they were dubbed silencers. :tops:

Can't link to it from my iPod, but google it, and educate yourself. Read on "Maxim Silencers", amongst other things. Thanks.
Quoting from wiki, cause it's easiest, but there are about a thousand sites on it: "Despite being misleading, the term "silencer" is still a wide-spread, even official term."

On topic: I swear I read that we can't. And for good reason. They are supposed to look much different this time around, and modding would possibly diminish looks and make the weapon overpowered.

Actualy they have said that uniques will not be modifiable, and they probably are better than a vanila version with full mods anyway

In before 5 page nerd argument on whether or not they are called silencers or suppressors.

Anyways, before that happens I will say you shouldn't be able to mod unique weapons.

1. I knew that. Suppressors sounds so awkward though.
2. Does it really matter?

Explosives - yes
Melee - probably, there is poison in one of the pre-order packs
Unarmed - don't know. I haven't really come up with any creative ways that they could, but maybe they found something for these too.

As for the OP: Avellone catagorically answered this question with a resounding no. Uniques are not modable.

It would be a tough choice between a cool Unique and a fully modded equivalent "normal" weapon.

To use an FO3 anology, the Lincoln's Repeater didn't really have a parallel, the Backwater Rifle came the closest, but that was also unique. I always thought it would be cool if I could put a scope on that thing to make it the "perfect" rifle and throw on a suppressor to make it even better when sneaking. I'm hoping that unique weapons that could actually use scopes, like those on par with the Lincoln's Repeater (powerful, low AP, no spread) will have scopes already built into them.

Conversely, weapons that had absolutely no need for a scope, such as the Perforator/Infiltrator will hopefully NOT have one by default in NV...
