Give up on the Thompson?

I can't speak for him, but if the Thompson wasn't such an excellent candidate for the "absolutely unique only one in the game super duper special iconic gun" niche that the lincoln's repeater filled in Fallout 3, I'd have completely given up on the Thompson myself.

And you know, a 10mm Thompson would actually be pretty sweet.

The 10mm SMG is already like a doodad'd up MP5k, so I doubt they'd put that in the game.

Im talking more of like a HK UMP two handed style tactical SMG

Although I don't know much about firearms, I'm excited to see that Sawyer cares a lot for them. All this stuff is sure to add an extra level of depth to some users that Fallout 3 could never achieve.

Are you're weapons going to move with you? You know, how in Call of Duty(hate referencing it), You will point the weapon barrel a different direction every time you look left or right, to see more of the gun. On that subject, did you jack up the sensitivity? If I'm level 1, and a deathclaw attacks me, I might not even be able to turn around fast enough to kill it.

I haven't had issues with sensitivity on the PC version(300 DPI...), but it was a pain to aim on the PS3 version. Even on the highest sensitivity setting, I found myself always relying on VATS because I couldn't aim worth [censored]. Really hope they have higher sensitivity levels, so aiming isn't complete crap on the console versions.

Also, welcome to the forums!

I don't know about that, but even in Fallout 3 your gun bounced up and down as you walked.

Well that's true. But I like to get the full scope of things. That includes examining my weapons. I find that The intricate designs of some weapons are fascinating. Also, I think that to go though animating all those details of a weapon, they should be appreciated.

So in New Vegas were geting hollowpoints, +P, hand loads ect. If you are a gun enthusiast as I am tell me if youre happy about a game actually knowing a thing or two about firearms and not just think they know everything there is to know from other video games. A good example of guns in games that work nothing like they would in real life is the shotgun in just about any game ever. In most games shotguns are only effective at up to 10 yds. while in reality, they are effective up to 30 yds. depending on type of shot, barrel length ect. So yeah, its just nice to see that they actually put some thought into there guns......
And if you dont recognize the terms at the start of this post, then ill explain them.

Hollowpoint: A round that is hollow at the tip, rather than rounded, it concaves inward. This causes the bullet to mushroom and near quadruple in size on impact with the target, doing massive damage.

+P: Plus Pressure, bassically means more gunpowder= more powerfull round.

Hand Loads: Any round that is home loaded, with certain tools. The empty/used shells of a round are taken and fitted with a new primer, bullet, and gunpowder. So basically with the right materials in New Vegas youll be able to make your own ammunition. :D

Don't you just know everything.

@ Dev's (Sawyer or whoever), are all the SMG's going to be announced before release or some we will haft to find out about ourselves when we play the game?

The compact grease gun is freakin cool, it is but id be nice to have some kind of HK SMG like a mp5 or something on those lines. The .22 SMG that has been announced is not exactly very tactical but I believe it is the only SMG that has been announced that is held like a rifle. So like a mp5 would be held like a rifle ingame & not like the compact grease gun for example.

you just said SMGs just so you could hear more on the tommy gun.

I can see through your guise. Nice try.

A short rant by a member of another forum. Is it possible to have a statement to this?

That M2 record with a machine gun is suspect. An M2 .50 Browning is a single shot/full auto weapon. The effective range is 1800 meters due to barrel length and bullet weight. I don't count it cause you typically can see clearly at that range without a powered scope. But you cannot fire full auto very well with a powered scope because the recoil throws off scope shadow. Means that you are reducing effectiveness with the weapons primary function. But I guess from a pure numbers perspective, it's the best weapon to get that distance for back in the 60's.

/rant

Update

It's just a small rant. The weapon can range that far accurately. But using it as a sniper rifle is really only useful as a fun thing. The M2 is far too heavy and large to be practical for a normal snipers needs for maneuverability. It's why the M2 is usually mounted on trucks or in gun towers as a defensive weapon. So, in combat, a .50 could be used to engage that far, but it's impractical to do so. There is no real way to control the recoil either. Even on a stand bolted into cement or a tank, the weapon has got a kick. But I love it, thing destroys people hiding behind brick, walls, trees, ect.

Edit: Also he says you are doing good work Sawyer.

mid-low caliber revolver, like a 10mm

If by caliber, you mean power of the round, 10mm is practically a magnum load. The FBI had to stop using them because of overpenetration and excessive recoil. If by caliber, you mean diameter of the round, it is the same as a 40 S&W which is a step below a .45 ACP. ALSO, 10mm is an auto-loading round, not typically intended for revolvers. There are revolvers that shoot 10mm, mind you, they just aren't very common.

more like something that uses a caliber more common then a magnum round but more powerful then the pea shooter .38 revolver in Fallout 3

Concidering we know they can make a gun only use one type of 45 cal round id not be shocked to see a 45 cal tommy gun that only uses a very common low power variant of the 45 round while say a 45 positol used a more spendy and rare round and could also chamber high power rounds as well.

That could make the tommy gun a high tier smg that uses cheap ammo and lots of it as apposed to other high tier 45s that fire much slower and use much harder to get ammo.

I always liked in the earlier Fallout games that rounds like 9mm were amongst the rarest ammunition types you could find and rounds like 10mm Auto were extremely common. It fit with the alternate timeline idea very nicely, because in reality 10mm never caught on in any substantial way. It was a cool little detail, honestly. Now, it seems like this has been retconned, as he 9mm seems much more prevalent. Shame, that.

Long-barreled shotguns retain pretty tight groupings at long range, but short-barreled ones have wide spread. And yes, there are both 20 ga. and 12 ga. slugs.

Bloody good to hear from a software man who knows his hardware! Over here (UK) we can only play around with different 'Choke'. Makes a big difference when you want to bring the pheasant home whole, rather than in chips..
