America's First Choice in Post Nuclear Simulation

Post » Fri Jan 28, 2011 8:18 am

Fallout IS a sim. I keep seeing people here saying Simulators are boring, lame, etc.

Yet if you'd simply look up, the main banner on the top of the page says "America's First Choice in Post Nuclear Simulation". Sounds like it's a simulator to me! lol.

Anyway.. yeah. So the more "realism" the better!

It is not a simulation. If you read more then you will see that it is a simulation made by Vault Tec, a fictional company found within the Fallout games.

It's just a joke. It's not a simulator (the genre I mean) and it's not like Matrix (the game is actually a simulation like Operation Anchorage).

 No, no it's not. That is a joke. The game is not a sim. Plus this is Bethesda's site Bethesda wrote that. Bethesda did not begin the FO franchise. Also, why would a Vault-Tec simulation contain info on the evil things Vault-Tec does?

Right, you could be in the "real world' then a vault tec comes up to you and says, hey how would you like to be in our focus group?

Every game is a simulator in one sense or another, it emulates a fictional or non-fictional realm, in-which you participate.
Doesn't that make it a simulator, or are simulators strictly for educational purposes, then again one could argue that the purpose of, even recreational, media is to educate or change the perception of the audience.

From Post Nuclear Roleplaying Game we've gotten to post nuclear simulation - and to people wanting to be able to poop and to make and raise kids (both being suggested multiple times). I can tell the future looks bright. :P

It's only a matter of time until a cross-company joint project occurs: "The Sims: Fallout Edition."

He was referring to the Fallout banner on top of every page on the forums which reads "America's First Choice in Post Nuclear Simulation". Thanks for making the OP feel bad.

Just because it's in-game propaganda doesn't mean it can't symbolize something in the real world.

Sure. But the source of love this way can be a bit... onesided. If you know what I mean.

Fallout is an RPG, it always has been and hopefully always will be. RPGs are not simulations, they are far cries from simulations unless you actually believe that you can gain increased resilience to gun shots in real life by shooting giant roaches with a BB Gun. "America's First Choice in Post Nuclear Simulation" is just a marketing slogan.

Really, how come you said "From Post Nuclear Roleplaying Game we've gotten to post nuclear simulation". If you were really referring to the banner (instead of FO1) then that comment would not have existed. I'm sorry but I really hate flamers so you can GTHO.

That slogan is just supposed to be like old ad slogans from the 1950s, it's part of the retro-futurism theme. Old ads used to tell a lot of BS about the products they hawked- so don't expect that Fallout is a sim because of that tagline.
