Unique item repair

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 12:43 pm

On two separate characters in FO3 I managed to destroy some unique items when trying to condense my inventory. The first time was with my first character where I destroyed the unique Chinese assault rifle, the second time was the rangers armor.

So what I'm wondering is if there's going to be any protection to keep from accidentally using a unique weapon to repair their lesser counterparts. Not that it's a huge deal anymore as I've been more careful, but it would be nice to not have to worry about doing this.

Anyone happen to know if this is the case or not?

yes there is, they solved it by simply making you unable to repair unique weapons with other weapons, thus they never appear in the repair menus, uniques can only be repaired with repair kits or at vendors.

I think Sawyer mentioned it in the weapons and mods thread.

Or if you're rich then you can just use repair kits without using doubles.

Not true, they simply ported over a system from FO3's DLC. If you remember, the DLC uniques didn't appear in the base forms' repair lists, but you could still repair THEM with base forms. But there was never a chance that you could destroy your unique since you couldn't use it to repair anything else.

You'll still be able to repair "Maria" with regular 9mm pistols, and the "All American" can till be fixed with regular Marksman Carbines. You just won't be able to do it the other way around.

This is how it should be done.
