I like the idea of my character having one weapon through the entire game.

I was hoping to find a rifle that offered middle range damage, with scope, silencer and ammo that is bench-created. An mix of an assault/sniper rifle I suppose.

I don't want some monster weapon that is game breaking, but one that, as my gun skill goes up, can hold its own against the high end creatures like deathclaws, giant radscorpions, super mutant masters etc.

I have looked a lot at Nexus but thought I'd also post here to see if people have suggestions.

Let's see. It's gonna be a bit hard to have ammunition that is only crafted, as http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39981 adds ammo to vendors as well as recipes. I would suggest http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=41013 if you are planning to use just the vanilla ammunition types, as that adds all types of ammo to be crafted, which eliminates using vendors to buy ammo if you want to.

As for a weapon, there's http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40016, http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40813, or http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40379.

Remember, you can always change a weapon's stats, if you don't like them, by opening up FNVEdit and adjusting them there so that they fit your preference.

Although it's not quite what I wanted. I was hoping for something that was more all-purpose and fired a different ammo.

I realize I can change the stats but am hoping to find one that looks/feels right without being overpowered.

Hmm.. well, what exactly are you looking for in particular? I know you said a mixture of assault rifle and sniper rifle, which tends to lead me believe you want a semi-automatic sniper rifle. Looks like the weapon you picked on thus far fits that. Are you looking for something a bit more larger in size? Not sure how much larger the model can get before it becomes a bit bulky.
