Your name

Is it possible to get the other characters in the game to say the name you gave your player in New Vegas?
I Know its not possible but it would be hilarious.

Not unless you want to resort to a computer generated voice. Which might be decent for a robot character, come to think of it. In the old days of text responses, it was easy, but now that everything has to be voiced it's pretty much impossible, and will be until we can figure out how to simulate human voices perfectly.

No... How would that work, that means every voice actor would have to say your name, and even then it would sound odd in conversation.

Only if the creation functions went the way of many sports games, where your name is dictated by selecting from a pre-generated list.

Would be cool if there was a small list of pre set names that you could choose a name from so that the voice actors could use the name.

Or you could just use your own name but the NPCS would just call you courier or something instead.

Or maybe a preset list of nicknames, like the basic 'Courier' or maybe 'Blondie' or stuff like that.

I liked the way Mass Effect did it. A set last name with a title that everyone called you by, and it never sounded awkward. I don't think that would work for F:NV, though it would have been nice if it were used in F3, with James having a last name, and you being called Ms./Mr. James' last name.

It would only work if not all characters had voice acting. I don't know which I would prefer.

I say at the start of game when making your character you should be able to choose a nickname.

So say my guys name is Micheal Barstien but i chose the nickname Dagger.

The NPC's would be like

"Dagger, we need your help, the NCR are attacking the west flank!"

This reminds me of when I had no clue what Fallout was, I would go to my friends' house and watch him play FO3. He had named his character James, and 3-dog kept saying "James", referring to the lone wanderers' dad, and I was like "How does this game know the name you chose?"

The simplest way would be to use the editor....open and extract every line of text and speech file....add your name in the appropriate text places...get all your friends and neighbors to re-do all the voice over parts and recompile. ( And hope you put it back together right )

Other then that...?

That wouldn't take long at all.

And to the post before that, it was my characters name also (didn't know James was the name of the father too) so I was like cool....then I realized it wasn't that great.
