Still random freezing with Patch 1.4 on X360

Post » Sat Dec 25, 2010 12:46 am

I started playing my FNV on Patch 1.2 beginning of April on X360 version. I don't have any DLC. The game was very stable (no random freezing) until I have completed several non-main story side quests which is 40+ hours into it. From there on, the more side quests I completed the more frequent the game freezes up especially after fast travel back to back several times or the game having to load going from one door to another door quickly. I'm now 60-70+ hours into the game with almost every side quests completed and the game freezes very often.

With Patch 1.4, the game continues to random freeze after I fast travel back to back several times or the game having to load going from one door to another door quickly.

I also played PS3 version before I got X360 version. PS3 version freezes far more often than X360 version which was the reason I swapped the game to X360 version.

I also played Fallout 3 GOTY on PS3 which freezes very often as I progressed more into the game. It seems Bethesda has gave up in fixing Fallout 3 stability with DLCs.

Is Fallout New Vegas (on both PS3 and X360) stability going to stay broken like F3 GOTY on PS3?

Just an update for gamesas and Obsidian.

Cannot load saves following most recent update (Title Update #4), and no attempts have been successful with playing with removing updates, un-installing Dead Money DLC, reinstalling, trying without DLC, without Patch, with one, without the other, etc.

The game sticks at the loading screen with the roulette wheel spinning and the title cards cycling in the background.

I realize that the most recent patch was an update to save issues, but just a heads up that the game is completely broken right now for me, and probably other users as well.

Yep. Freezing for me too. Started right after I downloaded the patch. Usualy when I enter/exit doors quickly.

I hope there is a fix soon, because this happens about every 20 min or so.

My theory on why New Vegas has so much freezing problem is the bug was never fixed from Fallout 3 engine. Now it's getting extremely hard for fix the stability problem in New Vegas as they probably have to do a lot of revision to the buggy engine. Also, Bethesda knows as long Fallout continues to sale and popular, they don't really need to spend a lot of developers time in trying to fix New Vegas stability.

They are more concern now with getting Skyrim ready on time for release. Getting the next game out means more profit.

I've noticed a bit more freezing since the patch, but then again when I first got New Vegas and it freezed quite a bit, yet settled down the more I played, dont know why. I also notice that some locations freeze more than others. When I was in the Tops last night going after Benny it froze two times, yet on another day since the patch I played it for 4-5 hours and no freeze.

Of all the casinos, White Glove freezes the most during their sidequest.

after i finally was able to make update for work (had to re-install the patch), the game seems to be running much better overall. in areas where the framerate used to drop, they now run smoothly, and load times are shorter.

however, i have definitely noticed it freezes more...not all the time but it happens once every hour or two. and its always when i'm entering or exiting an area, it will load and then the screen will go black and i'll have to restart my system.

Lot's of freezing here too. Downloaded newest xbox 360 patch for FNV and started a explosives/shotgun build character and about 20% of the time if I throw nades or dynamite inside a building my game freezes. Really makes explosives almost useless.

I have a lot more freezing issues since the latest (revised) patch.Initially I thought places like Forlorn hope were fixed, but it freezes on fast travel unless I am at a departure location which is quite close to it.Also I freeze now in locations such as the Brotherhood safe house when I fast travel there,I had no issues with this area before the patch.I have noticed that it freezes more often if I rotate the camera or turn around immediately after the fast travel loading screen, that could just be a coincidence though,I'm not certain.I'm on xbox.

I feel your pain, before the patch it got to the point the game was unplayable, now with the new patch it seems to run smoother. But just like everyone else, when going in or out of an area (load screen) it seems to freeze/black screen and the only way out is to restart my console.

This is a bummer, I was really looking forward to finishing the game before the new DLC is released.

Seriously, I think the only way to get this company to get it's head out of their collective chocolate starfishes is to just not buy the next one, which is months away. I guess that means we just got old school hustled $60 down the drain and all we get is a "sorry guys that svcks, well have fun with that we've got better s**t to do." This is a joke I'm so tired of this game. I just want to burn it, but I don't want to waste my money. Are you Bethesda guys hearing me or are you too busy wiping your butts with cash to care?

It's almost laughable, but if this continues this game is going to be ET all over again... Vault of shame Bethesda. Vault of Shame.

I just encountered a very nasty bug in New Vegas. I went to Jacobson to activate "ED-E My Love" quest. After the quest is activate, whenever I try to leave the building, the game freezes.

After rebooted and reloaded the save game after already activated the quest, every time I try to leave the building at Jacobson, the game freezes as it becomes impossible to leave. After, I removed Patch 1.4, I couldn't load the save game without the game freezes while loading. I also tried to loading the game save from USB storage by removing the hard drive and it freezes.

Finally, I gave up and loaded an older save game. I repeated the same steps by going to Jacobson to activate "ED-E My Love" quest and have no problem leaving the building this time.

This bug is just nasty because it corrupted the save game. If I don't happen to have another save game before the bug occurred, I wouldn't be able to continue playing the game.

With Patch 1.2, I was able to load save game after Patch 1.2 is removed. Now, save games that are created with Patch 1.4 have become dependent on it. If there are other nasty bugs that introduced by Patch 1.4, it's not possible to continue using the save game if Patch 1.4 is removed.

So, is it better to stay away from newer patches and live the existing bugs in New Vegas or install the newer patches and not only the game remains buggy, it may cause the game saves to permanently stuck with newer patches?

@ Vortex3D - Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try tomorrow, I think I have a few saves that should not be corrupted. But I will still have along way to go to get back to were I'm leveled at now, but if it work, I'll do it.

Sad thing is that this had to be discovered by someone not working for Beth or Obsid....

The real sad thing is gamers have to deal with playing such a buggy game. I think the Bethesda and Obsidian knew about how buggy and unstable New Vegas is before they shipped it. Fallout 3 should have taught Bethesda about the problem with the engine. Obviously not.

I have been exploring smaller areas away from The Strip that have small "buildings" that don't have many NPCs. The game didn't freeze as often as larger areas like The Strip. It's not surprising as the game doesn't need to hold as many items in the memory. This explains why many larger areas that are more complex than Fallout 3 are causing New Vegas to have more stability problem.

I don't plan to buy any of the New Vegas DLCs. The main game is already so unstable and with DLCs expanding the game, they could cause it to become less stable like Fallout 3 GOTY on PS3.

I second that! No more DLCs for me either. I'm sure 90% of gamers understand that a lot of work and time goes into making a game of this size and scope. But that still does not answer the question of why in the hell didn't any bother to fix the games-engine from Fallout 3 before beginning work on building New Vegas.

And until someone from Beth or Obsid can tell me why they feel we should buy more DLCs when they can not even fix the game is beyond me. I just want to say to all developers who may or may not really give a s@#t, if we did not care do you really think we would complain so damn much.

Yea New Vegas in unplayable for me right now as well. I called tech support last night and he told me to delete the patch then clear the system cache and then start up the game and reinstall the patch and that would fix it....well i want to put a huge FAIL!! sticker across his forehead because that did not work!! Does obsidian/bethesda even know that the patch makes FNV unplayable.

Is Bethesda saying they can't fix the game, and restarting from the beginning is the solution? So, if you do restart from the beginning and 70+ hours later, the game gets very unstable again, the solution is restart from the beginning. I got as far as I could in New Vegas without the game frequently freezing up.

I'm going to start playing Dragon Age 2.

You are all wrong, the Freezes and the broken Savegames after a patch are not Bugs. They are features who are reminding you how stable Fallout and Fallout 2 were. So gamesas did a very good job in hiting the high Quality Standards of Black Isle and Interplay.

Ok so much for flaming. I have the same Problems as you guys, Savegame was never a problem but the Game is now much more unstable than before. Especially Autosaving is very critical, in the 5 times i played the Game the Box crippled the Autosave.

Why is it so impossible to Build a Fallout Game with less than a Million Bugs?

I am crying a little bit over this problem. Mine freezes every time I try to go onto the strip. I can't get anywhere on the main story line because of it. I enter, it does the loading screen, the loading screen goes to black like it is letting me through but then it stays there. FOREVER. It is miserable. I am sad I paid for this frustration. : /

Oh yeah, also it corrupts my autosaves.
