ED-E mysterious disappearance

Post » Sat Jan 15, 2011 12:36 pm

I entered vault 34 with ED-E and Sharon Cassidy. Apart from Cassidy running off and fighting Ghouls by herself, I managed to clear this place entirely out. After I left the Vault I noticed that ED-E was missing, but still have the enhanced sensor perk. I went back in the vault and retraced through the entire place finding no trace of ED-E anywhere. Considering that the place is highly irradiated and was now running low on Rad-Away, I decided to just leave because I had found some really good loot and really didn't not feel like redoing the entire place.

I probably should have reloaded the game, but I decided to continue through the game with just 1 companion and ED-E lost in Vault 34 somewhere. However, a serious problem arose when I decided to go to Caesar's Legion to do some quests and found myself unable to enter Caesar's tent because he kept telling me I need to enter alone. Therefore breaking the game to the point of me not continuing on all those quests in that area.

I have looked everywhere, in Vault 34 where I know he disappeared, I tried checking in Primm to see if he returned there, I checked the Lucky 38, still no sign of him.

Please add some sort of in game fix for this, If a companion becomes lost the player should be able to send them to lucky 38.

I lost E-DE in that same vault. I had to resort to using console commands to get him back.

Simply open your console in the game, type in the following commands in sequence and hit enter afterwards. It'll re-set your ED-E and teleport it next to you. Note that the reference ID for ED-E changes depending on which upgrade path you took for him, so you'll need to input the correct ID. The IDs found in the parenthesis are the alternative ones.

The directions are found in the Fallout Wikia, here: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_console_commands

prid 001732d1 (001732D0 if follower upgraded, 001732CF if brotherhood upgraded)
disable
enable
kill
resurrect

I lost ED-E at Nellis AFB. After surviving the gauntlet he was not with me anymore. I went back and all around but he was nowhere to be found.

So I reloaded to before the gauntlet and told him to wait for me on the road before the shells started flying. After surviving again I went back and he was waiting.

However after telling him to follow and fast traveling back to Nellis he was gone again.

For some reason he will not accompany me to that area and disappears from my game when I enter Nellis AFB. So it appears that if I want to keep ED-E I cannot do the quests in that area.

Thank you for your helpful post.
Will using this fix prevent me from getting achievements in the future?

only in the session in which you use the console.
use the console, save your game, exit and reload it.
then you will be able to get achievements again.

Yes you will doing it that way.

You can try just:

prid "whatever"
moveto player

That should simply move him to you. It works for me but didn't work for another person here.

The "moveto player" commands didn't bring ED-E back for me back when I had this issue. The prid would show I had selected an ED-E but ED-e would never actually move to me when told to do so. What ended up working was this:

player.placeatme 001732d0

[refid]
001732d1 (normal)
001732d0 (follower weapon upgrade)
001732cf (brotherhood armor upgrade)
or
[baseid]
0010c769 (normal)
001694e2 (follower weapon upgrade)
001694e0 (brotherhood armor upgrade)

One simple command and ED-E was instantly right beside me. I used the refid and it worked for me, the others just gave me an error saying it didn't exist. Not sure how ED-E is scripted throughout the game, so try both ID's. Hope this helps anyone that the "moveto" command wasn't helping.

After 120+ hours of play, I have lost various companions at least two dozen times. The one that gets lost most often is Rex with EDE in close second. One time I watched EDE go straight through the floor in front of my eyes. He was chasing some fiends uphill and instead of going uphill with them he went through the floor into hell probably.

I haven't resorted to console commands but I can tell you I have reloaded previous saves way too many times. These days I spent most of my playtime constantly turning around looking over my shoulder to make sure a companion is following or is in close proximity. About once every 30-60 seconds I'll turn around to check, and I'll check every single time I load into a place.

These companions require a massive amount of baby sitting. Quite honestly, sometimes I play the game without them because of the added chore they bring along to the table.

And I never, ever, tell them to go the 38. I have spent hours of game time advancing a character only to check the 38 hours later to find the companion never made it so I had to reload and lost all my work. If I want to dump a companion, I manually take him to primm (or where ever they originated from) and tell them to part ways. I watch for them to go to where I got them exactly and only then do I leave. For some reason, the fallout 3 companions weren't as labor intensive. It's sad because this game is a huge improvement over fallout 3, and the companion wheel is a godsend, but these companions get lost or disappear way too often.

Oh and one more thing. I read on the forums that if a companion is lost just go to vault 22 and use the elevator. That vault is notorius for moving "waiting" companions over to you when you load around. I know if you tell your companion to wait outside and you load anywhere in the vault, the companion will teleport into where you are. This sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, so just be safe and constantly look over your shoulder lol...

Funny that, where I can use moveto player, player.placeatme does not work for me.

Lets hope it's the same for others with the moveto player issue as it was for you.
